A chronic health condition (also called chronic illness or chronic disease) is one that lasts for 1 year or more that needs ongoing medical care and that can limit a person’s usual activities and affect daily life. More and more women of childbearing age in this country have chronic health conditions.

The outcomes for maternal health in this country are unacceptable. This year, more than 6 million women will become pregnant. March of Dimes believes every mom deserves access to resources to learn, take charge, and make the best decisions for herself and her family.
Childbirth affects more than your physical health. Your mental wellbeing can also be affected by shifting hormones that trigger all sorts of emotions. But while 80 percent of new parents go through mild mood changes, including the baby blues, 15-20% will face more serious mental health issues.
