to raise awareness and support
for families hit hardest by this health crisis.
March of Dimes has boots on the ground in communities nationwide. Our mobile health centers provide critical care for parents in maternity care deserts, and our community health workers connect people to health care services and support tailored to each person. We’ve reached thousands through pilot programs in Southeast Ohio and the D.C. metro area—and we’re just getting started.
TAKE PART IN NATIONAL FAMILY VOLUNTEER DAY ON NOVEMBER 19 AND BE THERE FOR FAMILIES WHO NEED OUR SUPPORT MOST.
Our Nowhere to Go: Maternity Care Deserts Across the U.S. (2022 Report) shows that our most vulnerable communities are losing access to maternity health care, with hospital closings and the loss of obstetric providers putting families in greater danger.
WE’RE MAKING IT CLEAR TO CONGRESS: AMERICAN FAMILIES DESERVE A BETTER START—ALL OF THEM.
With your signature in hand,
March of Dimes will deliver the Mamagenda to lawmakers and demand change for maternity
care on November 15. Stay updated on the campaign this

MEET VANIA BIGLEFTHAND
With the nearest birthing hospital two hours away, access to care was a real problem for Vania and Ray Biglefthand. Normal pregnancy routine was difficult and stressful. At 29 weeks, Vania was hospitalized on bed rest for a month. A March of Dimes advocate and community of NICU families made an impact on her. She said, “It was comforting to know that I wasn’t alone and we could share our stories together.”

Communities everywhere continue to lose providers and hospitals, especially in rural areas and communities of color. Even when families overcome obstacles to finding care, women and babies are still facing poor health outcomes and grave disparities. The U.S. preterm birth rate has increased to 10.5%– the worst rate March of Dimes has ever reported. That’s why today we’re calling out how this crisis impacts families in the U.S.
