The focal point of this badge is Quetzalcoatl, the Feathered Serpent, a God of the ancient Mexican pantheon. As a symbol of wind, this icon is a suitable choice for football.
The badge's shape was inspired by a traditional Mexican shield called a "Chīmalli," which has a circular shape and feathers fanning out from the base.
Central to the design is the football, which is a nod to the circular art of ancient Mexican stone carvings.
Finally, the badge's "Mexico" text is based on the "Mexico '86" logo from when Mexico hosted the World Cup. It has been adjusted to fan out from the main badge.
