Marsh McLennan celebrates 150 years - and we celebrate $2B
In 2021, MMA, along with our sister companies celebrated Marsh McLennan’s 150-year anniversary, rebranding to reflect our ongoing commitment to our clients’ and colleagues’ futures. This same year, we hit $2B in revenue. Continuing a busy year, we completed our acquisition of PayneWest Insurance. This strategic move allowed us to put down roots in the upper left corner of the United States by establishing our long-awaited Northwest region.
Marsh Private Client Services also transitioned to be a part of the MMA family in 2021. With this move, we officially entered the private insurance market, serving the needs of high-net-worth individuals. Other key moves in 2021 included Vaaler Insurance (Upper Midwest) and InSource Insurance Group (Southwest), to name a few.

2012:
With the goal of bringing best-in-class service and solutions to middle-market businesses across the country, Marsh McLennan made the pivotal decision to develop Marsh McLennan Agency.
In 2009, Marsh McLennan Agency officially set sail and leadership took the helm. We made our first acquisition in the 49th state, opening our doors in beautiful Anchorage, Alaska.
2009
Hitting the ground running, we rang in the new decade by acquiring Trion, Rutherfoord, and Bostonian, which established our East, Mid-Atlantic, and New England regions, respectively.
In 2011, we brought on two new regions, Upper Midwest and Florida, with our acquisitions of RJF and Seitlin.
On a mission to bring the best and brightest to our firm, in 2012, we made a string of acquisitions, including KSPH (Mid-Atlantic), Howalt McDowell (Upper Midwest), and Protector Group (New England). We also secured a presence in the Midwest, by welcoming Brower in Ohio.
A year!
In 2020, we launched MMA University, our innovative internal learning platform, with the goal of helping our colleagues reach their full potential and igniting their passion for lifelong learning. Renewing our commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, we established a partnership with NAAIA, paving way for future partnerships with APIW (2021), AAIN (2022), Out & Equal (2022), and LAAIA (2023).
Also in 2020: Los Angeles-based Momentous Insurance Brokerage (West) joined the firm, broadening our skillset in the entertainment industry. Heavy hitter Ironwood (Southeast) joined the party this year, too, giving us industry-leading expertise in private equity due diligence and risk management.
An oasis of industry talent
As we rounded out the 2010s, Marsh McLennan Agency took a trip to the desert, bringing on Phoenix-based Lovitt & Touche. With this acquisition, we gained a wealth of expertise in the construction, real estate, non-profit, healthcare, and manufacturing industries.
In 2019, Marsh McLennan Agency launched nationally available Unconscious Bias training, which helps our colleagues understand the attitudes and stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, and decisions in the workplace.
Callin' Baton Rouge
In 2018, we planted roots in the birthplace of jazz through our acquisition of Eustis Insurance & Benefits, a leading independent insurance agency based in Louisiana with offices in Baton Rouge, Mandeville, and Metairie.
New colleagues also joined our Mid-Atlantic and Upper Midwest regions from legacy agencies Highsmith, Insurance Associates, and Otis-Magie.

2024:
A decade and a half of growth
In 2024, we celebrated 15 years of serving the needs of our clients, colleagues, and communities. Along the way, we’ve become the leading middle-market broker in the U.S., with no plans to slow down anytime soon.
Limitless
Our firm reached $3B in revenue and 10,000 employees in 2023, with talent in every corner of the country.
This same year, we published the first issue of LIMITLESS Magazine to feature inspiring stories of the colleagues and clients we consider changemakers, innovators, and visionaries.
A top workplace in the U.S.
In 2022, we won our first (of many!) national Top Workplaces USA award in the large employer category (2,500+ employees), with additional recognition for DE&I Practices, Employee Well-Being, and Professional Development.
We also established six national colleague resource groups this year, like BLACC (Black Lives Affecting Change & Collaboration), SALUTE (a service-minded support group for military veterans and non-veterans), and SPECTRUM (a forum and safe space for LGBTQIA2s+ colleagues and Allies).

Building our dream team
In 2013, we expanded our team of construction specialists by acquiring Elsey & Associates out of Texas. Our Upper Midwest region saw immense growth when we welcomed Cambridge, Geri Love, Hoisington, and Willis Accounts throughout the year.
Wild, wild west
Marsh McLennan Agency headed out west in 2014, with our acquisition of legacy agency, Barney & Barney, establishing the West region based out of sunny San Diego, California.
Trés bon and howdy!
In 2015, we expanded our North American footprint into Canada with our office in Montréal, Quebec. This same year, we brought on our Southwest region, headquartered in Dallas, Texas.
The MMA bench got even deeper by bringing on several agencies with a wealth of niche talent. Some other key acquisitions in 2015 included Cline Wood (Upper Midwest), a leader in transportation insurance, and Tequesta Insurance (Florida), which added personal lines expertise.
The sky's the limit
Halfway through the 2010s, we made some big moves, acquiring Celedinas Insurance Group (Florida), a major player in the private client services space. We also welcomed Aviation Solutions (Upper Midwest), helping bring our aviation insurance expertise to new heights.

Before even hitting the decade mark, Marsh McLennan Agency reached $1B in revenue for the first time. This supersonic growth has only picked up speed in the years since, with our revenue poised to increase by $1B every two to three years.
This same year, we made waves by expanding our presence in the Southeast with the monumental acquisition of J. Smith Lanier & Co, one of the country’s largest, privately held insurance brokerage firms, based in West Point, Georgia.
