Despite the turbulent landscape faced in recent years, our barometer revealed a fighting spirit amongst leaders globally and in the UK for 2023.
Optimism in the face of ongoing challenges
Despite acknowledging the importance of a diverse workforce, true equity remains elusive in many companies, with little progress in terms of gender diversity among top decision-makers.

The results signify the importance of ESG on the C-suite agenda, however, there is not a huge change from last year’s survey results.
Investing in a sustainable future
Transforming company IT/technology is the top strategic priority for leaders over the coming three to five years. The emergence of new technology is expected to have a big impact on their business, and they recognise the importance of technologies such as artificial intelligence, automation, big data and Web3.

The UK looks to be ahead of global peers when it comes to producing sustainability reports and 75% of UK respondents have already budgeted costs for ESG strategy and reporting. However, UK leaders note a higher concern for data quality. Addressing this will be key to the reliability and credibility of reporting, which can be an important differentiator for UK businesses.
While there has been an increase in businesses implementing structured programmes to address the issue, the desired results are not there.
A quarter of leaders also say a new or revised talent attraction and retention strategy is a strategic priority and know the inability to attract a skilled workforce could hold back their company’s growth.
“To shape a sustainable future, for both their business and wider society, the C-suite are increasingly investing in technology and sustainability.
With uncertainty the norm for the foreseeable future, they need to continue to be bold today, to achieve sustainable success tomorrow.”
