Olivia O'Sullivan
Corporate Governance
Hello! I'm Olivia, I'm from Dublin and work in the Company Secretarial and Governance Services Department here in Forvis Mazars.
I studied Business and Law at college in UCD for four years. I was interested in both law and business, so found this course to be the perfect fit for me. I had a great experience at UCD, met a lot of friends and did a summer internship in my third year which I really enjoyed.

Tell us a bit about your background before Forvis Mazars
I researched Forvis Mazars after I saw my role advertised on LinkedIn. I was chatting to a friend who had completed an internship in Forvis Mazars previously. She told me to apply for the job, as she had really enjoyed working here, liked the culture and got on well with her managers/colleagues.
I wanted a job that would relate to both business and law, as I had enjoyed both aspects of my degree. I began chatting with the recruitment team at Forvis Mazars, who made the process very easy and enjoyable. After completing my interview, I was excited and it increased my interest in governance as an industry. The prospect of completing a Masters while working here also really appealed to me as I was interested in furthering my studies.
What made you choose your current career and what appealed to you about Forvis Mazars?
I would say, my parents and siblings. They are very hard-working people who motivate me to try my best at everything I do. I am very lucky to have such a supportive family and group of friends, who have helped me every step of the way in my academics and career so far.
Who or what has been the biggest influence on you growing up?
I was quite nervous starting off as I didn’t know anyone and hoped I would fit in well. I attended the Promotions evening which allowed me to meet other graduates that would be starting at a similar time to me. This was a good idea as I then recognised a few people at the training days once we all started, making me feel a lot more at ease.
My team were extremely helpful and welcoming and ensured I was not afraid to ask questions. The open and welcoming environment on my team (and floor generally) was key to settling in and made the first few weeks far less daunting. It was our busiest time of year when I started and although the workload was a lot to begin with, my team gave me support so that nothing became overwhelming.
How were the first few months of our graduate programme?
My days differ depending on the work that needs to be done, but I will always start by looking through emails and putting down tasks to be completed in my notebook. We often have team meetings, client meetings, team training and client filing tasks. I will usually take lunch from 1.00-2.00pm and will meet friends, go for lunch with colleagues or go for a walk. I love being so central in town as there are lots of options for food and places to meet friends. After work I enjoy going for walks, attending gym classes and watching TV.
Can you describe a typical day at Forvis Mazars?
We have a small team of a director, a senior manager, a manager and three associates. I get on very well with everyone on my team and feel we have a good team dynamic. I have never been afraid to ask for help and each member ensures everyone
feels supported.

What advice would you give to someone considering applying for our graduate programme?
Research Forvis Mazars generally, but also the department you are looking to apply for. Highlight skills and experience on your CV and cover letter that are important in the role you are looking at (the job spec is useful). I chatted a lot with recruitment and felt very comfortable asking the team if I had any queries about the role.
I made sure I was well-prepped for the interview by knowing a bit about the company, my sector and the professional qualifications I would be completing. I also noted modules in college I believed would be interesting and useful to talk about for the job role. It is also important to make sure to show your personality, as this will make you memorable to the interviewers.
Research all aspects of potential jobs so that you can try to put yourself forward for the areas of work which appeal to you most.
