Who can enter?
The challenge is open to everyone.
Apart from the drive to complete as many steps as you can for the four weeks. You need a smart phone. The challenge requires you to sync a smart phone with the Big Team Challenge App. Without syncing the App to your smart phone you cannot record your steps, and therefore cannot enter the challenge. For fairness, no manual entry of steps is allowed.
What do you need to enter the challenge?
The challenge begins on 20 January 2025 but participants can register until 28 January 2025.
Registration
Teams consist of up to four members. It is possible to have less than four members in you team although it will be harder to complete the challenge. You may only be part of one team.
Team formation
The challenge runs for a duration of four weeks, starting on 00:01, 20 January 2025 and running until 23:59, 16 February 2025.
Challenge duration
Both routes take the same path, through the 32 counties of Ireland.
The 10,000 step route finishes when the teams reach Tipperary.
The steps required for a team to qualify for the 10,000 step end of challenge prize pool is 1,120,000 steps
The steps required for a team to qualify for the 16,000 step end of challenge prize pool is 1,792,000 steps
Your route will be defined by the pace of your team.
Your team steps are combined so a participant who completes more steps may make up for a fellow team mate who does less steps in order to complete the required steps to qualify for a prize. For Example Team mate A and B do 70,000 each in week 1. Team mate C does 60,000 steps. If Team mate D does more than 80,000 steps, the team still qualify for the week 1 prize pool.
If you qualify for the 16,000 steps a day prize pool you will not be entered in the 10,000 step a day prize pool.
Teams who are within 1,000 steps will qualify for a prize pool.
The routes
Participants must use the official challenge app with a synced device to track their daily steps.
No manual entries will be accepted.
This may require you to carry your phone with you at all times to record your steps.
Fitbit and Garmin devices will also syce to the Big Team Challenge App.
Steps must be synced with the app by midnight on each Sunday during the challenge, in order to be counted in the weekly prizes. Simply open the app on your phone to record the steps.
A full guide to syncing can be found on the registration page
Walking or running
This is a steps challenge. Although you can see a leaderboard on the app and desktop platform for kilometers, steps will be the basis on which all prizes are awarded.
Taking a 5KM distance as an example. Someone who runs 5 KM will receive less steps compared to someone who walks 5 KM because the person who walks 5 KM will do more steps to complete the distance. Runners take longer strides and so will naturally do less steps to complete the distance.
Step tracking
Prizes will be awarded based on various criteria shown on the prizes page.
