I write this final letter from Mumbai, India where over 6000 colleagues from all around the world have come together for the World Congress of Accountants (WCOA), hosted by the Institute of Chartered Accountants India (ICAI) and International Federation of Accountants (IFAC). IFAC is a global organisation for the accounting profession, representing more than three million professional accountants across 135 jurisdictions.
WCOA has been a wonderful opportunity to connect with other professional bodies and their members, showcase some of the incredible contributions our members are making to the profession and of course bring back the best of our global network to our members.
It has also been great to experience the depth and breadth of diversity across our profession and the warmth, generosity and spirit of our host colleagues, ICAI who have gone above and beyond to ensure we all experience Incredible India.
I am grateful to have been able to visit members living and working abroad throughout the year in Asia, the US and the UK, and have been delighted to see and hear about the ‘global village’ of our member base who welcome and support their fellow members as they establish themselves in new communities.
At a personal level, one of the most valuable parts of being a member of CA ANZ is the network that I have developed over the years. I had never expected that a decision to get involved with our professional body on Regional Councils would lead to so many valued connections, both personally and professionally.
I would like to close by acknowledging our colleagues who volunteer their time, experience and passion in service of our professional body. Whether it is being part of a Regional Councils or Committees, supporting our members through the Chartered Accountants Advisory Groups or Mentor Exchange, or advising the organisation on advocacy priorities to name just a few examples – thousands of our colleagues generously give up their time year after year to contribute to the success of our organisation and support their fellow members.
It has been an incredible honour and privilege to be your president in 2022 and represent the member voice on our council and as part of the office bearer team at the board. I look forward to what comes next and to the difference we can all continue to make as chartered accountants.
