Since the onset of COVID-19, there’s been an uptick in families accessing HCF’s health and wellbeing programs.
With HCF’s holistic offerings, it’s not only members, but also their families, who can access quality support for their mental and physical health.
Support for the
whole family

“The pandemic has been really tough on parents and children. Our members have increasingly been seeking support not just for themselves, but for their families as well,” says Linda Opie, Head of Health and Wellbeing at HCF.
As Australia’s largest not-for-profit health fund, HCF puts its members and their health first.
“It’s crucial that families are aware of the HCF wellbeing programs available to support them and also be guided quickly to government supported options early in their wellbeing journey.”
To make sure the whole family is covered, HCF members can also add their children, whether that’s one or many, to their family cover for free.
“We’re always aiming to support our members and build a healthier next generation as much as we can,” says Opie.
Children can experience all manner of emotional challenges.
To help your kids manage their big feelings, HCF members* can access Calm Kid Central, an online educational and support program to help kids aged 4-11 learn to act bravely and confidently, behave in positive ways, develop good friendships and manage tough life situations.
Calm Kid Central provides online activities, video lessons and animations to help children understand big feelings and manage challenges, as well as resources and tools that you can turn to when your child is in distress.
“If you notice a spike in your child’s anxiety, there are a few games that Calm Kid Central makes available to help parents de-escalate the situation and build coping strategies,” says Opie.
“Busy professionals find great benefit in having access to these quick and useful tips.”
The program also provides parents with confidential access to an experienced child psychologist who can answer questions within 48 hours.
Building healthy families
HCF’s partnership with GP2U^ – an online GP and specialist doctor service – can help to keep your family’s health in check with fast and easy access to care.
HCF also offers access to the Healthy Families for Life platform with tools and resources to help eligible members+ encourage kids to develop positive eating habits for growth and development.
“There are some amazing resources to help children with issues such as fussy eating, overeating and undernutrition,” says Opie.
As part of the HCF Thank You loyalty program, HCF has also partnered with Sports Camp Australia to offer Thank You members# discounted access to school holiday sports camps.
Helping kids manage their big feelings
“For working parents, having a week-long program at a discounted rate that’s a healthy option for their kids can be invaluable.”
Looking after yourself
Worrying about your child’s wellbeing can impact your own daily functioning – including sleep.
“Throughout the pandemic people have been sleeping worse than before. Increased screen time, feeling anxious about the future and down about the past, and worrying about other family members is harming sleep,” says Opie.
“Sleep is a key factor contributing to mental health and weight management.”
HCF has partnered with Sleepfit Solutions to deliver an app that can help identify sleep issues, recommend improvements and give you access to personalised tools.
To help you get a better night’s sleep, eligible HCF members** can get a 20% discount on a 12 month Sleepfit subscription.
Eligible HCF members^^ can also benefit from HCF’s partnership with PSYCH2U, which provides easier access and navigation to online mental health professionals.
“It’s often a long wait to see a therapist. Telehealth enables people to quickly access support,” says Opie.
“It’s so important to reach out not just for your child’s support, but for yourself too so that you have the capacity to help your family.”
