INTERVIEW
Kauai and Hawaii
ITINERARY
It’s hard to go wrong when choosing a Hawaiian island (or two) to visit. Each has its own compelling history, culture, and personality, yet they’re all blessed with blissful weather, spectacular scenery, and numerous paths to adventure. Kauai and Hawaii (the Big Island) pair up nicely for a five-day sojourn in paradise.
The North Shore is a stunning region of mountains, sea cliffs, taro fields, and beaches. See it all from Kilauea Point National Wildlife Refuge on the island’s northernmost point. Set along a 180-foot-tall ocean bluff, the refuge is a haven for migratory seabirds and home to Daniel K. Inouye Kilauea Point Lighthouse, built in 1913. Nearby, Na 'Aina Kai Botanical Gardens and Sculpture Park is an Eden of tropical plants, art, and a hardwood plantation. Take a walking tour to gain a deeper appreciation of the garden’s exotic and wondrous elements.
Afternoon
Spend the rest of the day relaxing in Hanalei, a charming town just west of Princeville’s resorts and golf courses. Here you’ll find shops, art galleries, and restaurants, as well as stretches of green taro fields. By Hanalei Bay, walk some of Kauai’s best beaches and see picturesque Hanalei Pier, which was featured in the film classic, South Pacific. It’s a great spot to watch the sunset.
Evening
Sharing a sunset with others is a beautiful Kauai tradition. The Sunset Wall offers spectacular views as the sun melts below the horizon. Arrive a few minutes early to grab your spot along this lengthy stone wall — it’s a popular vantage point among locals and tourists. Or dial up the romance over dinner at The Beach House Restaurant, where spectacular beachfront views, open-air seating, and Pacific cuisine with an Asian twist work in perfect harmony.
Evening
On your way from Waimea Canyon, cool down with fresh coconut juice or a tropical shake from Coconut Corner. This roadside stand is a local favorite for Thai food and refreshments. Get a taste of authentic Kauai in Old Koloa Town, a historic shopping village where Hawaii’s sugar plantation era dawned in the 1830s. Shops, galleries, and restaurants now occupy colorful clapboard buildings that once served workers who migrated here from around the world, shaping Hawaii’s cultural melange.
Afternoon
Kauai’s west side holds must-see Waimea Canyon, aka the Grand Canyon of the Pacific, a wonder that’s 14 miles long, a mile wide and up to 3,600 feet deep. It’s a drivable destination, too — Waimea Canyon Drive leads to Waimea Canyon Overlook’s panoramic vistas. Follow the road to Kokee State Park, where trails (and more overlooks) beckon beginning and seasoned hikers alike.
morning
Staggering sea cliffs, mango and guava groves, and planes flying overhead are par for the course at the Ocean Course at Hokuala. Designed by pro golfer Jack Nicklaus, it ranks among the most beautiful courses in Hawaii and the world — and it’s conveniently located on the way to the airport. If you’d rather pick up a souvenir before leaving Kauai, spend the afternoon shopping and sampling at food stalls in Hanalei.
A quick flight gets you to the Big Island so you can rest well and hit the ground running.
afternoon
Jump-start your final day in Kauai with a cup of fair-trade coffee and breakfast at Mokihana Coffee by Small Town. Catching waves is easy on the island, whether you’re stand-up paddleboarding, snorkeling, or watching. Do it all at nearby Anahola Beach, where the surf is gentle and the reef formations just beyond the shoreline are teeming with aquatic life.

Planning a group excursion won’t feel like a herculean effort thanks to these tips and tools. Harness the power of organization and let the good times roll.
Skiing and snowboarding may have put these mountain towns on your radar, but there’s so much more than meets the slopes when it comes to these vacation-worthy cities. Whether you adventure beyond the lifts after a day of snow sports or prefer to enjoy the “après” activities without the “ski,” these destinations have many facets.
Who says you shouldn’t eat dessert first? There’s no sweeter way to start a day in this lakeside town than with a Ben & Jerry’s factory tour. (OK, perhaps after brunch.) Located just outside of Burlington proper, get the scoop about how Ben Cohen, Jerry Greenfield, and their team of ice cream aficionados pump out more than 350,000 pints per day. After a quick movie and a peek at the production room floors, you’ll be able to sample your choice of flavor. Warning: You might need a pint of Chocolate Therapy after having to decide between Americone Dream and Cherry Garcia!
In the afternoon, hop over to Vermont Brewers Association’s Burlington Beer Trail to take flight at local gems like Switchback Brewing Co. and Zero Gravity Craft Brewery. Just be sure to save room for some of the region’s most marvelous meze at Honey Road. James Beard Award-nominated chef-owner Cara Chigazola Tobin’s shared plates, like seared Halloumi with pomegranate hot honey and berries, lamb kofta (meatballs) over hummus, and flaky spinach-stuffed spanakopita, are too tempting to skip.
For one of the prettiest sunset scenes in the area, head to Waterfront Park for a post-dinner stroll. Situated along the Lake Champlain shoreline, the park’s trail offers majestic views of the Adirondack Mountains. Take a seat on one of the swinging benches to soak up every last drop of vibrant daylight.

Group travel comes with its own distinct set of challenges, and coordinating schedules is firmly at the top of the list. But what if you had a tool to make the task a little easier? As an owner, you can use your dashboard to scout out availability and secure your preferred dates. Experts recommend booking group travel at least a year in advance if you can.

In December 2023, Miami became the first seaport with a Global Entry Enrollment Center to help expedite the Global Entry application process for international travelers departing on a cruise.
To some, getting away means lounging poolside or dining in luxury. To others it means soaking in the earth’s natural beauty on a hiking excursion or hitting the town for window-shopping. No matter how you define it, a cruise vacation yields engaging opportunities on and off the ship that everyone can get on board with. Owners enjoy exclusive offers and booking assistance with cruise reservations. Visit your owner website today to start dreaming up your next floating vacation.

Ah, the perks of traveling midweek: fewer crowds, shorter lines — and perhaps the most compelling — lower fares. The cheapest flights often pop up on Tuesday and Wednesday of each week. Use the Google Flights calendar feature to see pricing at a glance. For deeper savings on airline travel, book with airline or credit card miles.
Don’t discount weekdays
With a global market forecasted to reach $2,114.2 billion by 2028, culinary tourism is in the midst of a major boom — and there’s no time like the present to savor the flavors of a new destination. On a guided culinary tour, you’ll visit local hot spots and off-the-beaten-path neighborhoods, bonding with fellow gourmands as you fill your bellies. Sites like Tripadvisor and Viator are a great place to find reputable, well-reviewed options.
Explore through taste
Unless a trip is all-inclusive, chances are you’ll take turns grabbing the bill. But what if Joan orders a salad and water at dinner while Liz has a steak plus two glasses of wine? Splitwise, a free bill-splitting app, ensures you never pay more than your share by helping you track expenses as you go. At the end of the trip, tap “settle up” and the app calculates who owes what.

Outside of snow season, this Bavarian-style village in the heart of the Cascade Mountains will greet you with blooming orchards, rushing rivers, and so much history. One of the best ways to get your bearings is on a Bavarian E-Bike Tour. During the 2½-hour guided Leavenworth Mountain View Tour, you’ll breeze through 16 miles of canyons, historic downtown buildings, and more. Once you know where Front Street is, you can loop back to spend more time at the charming shopping district. Public art punctuates the streets, which transform throughout the year for Christkindlmarkt, Winter Karneval, Maifest, and Oktoberfest.
The small-town life is nice, but when you’re ready to escape it all, lace up your sneakers or boots and tackle some or all of the 8-mile round trip hike at Colchuck Lake. The moment you step past the tree cover, you’ll have a birds-eye view of the lake (at 5,580 feet above sea level) and its ombre of dark blue and vibrant aquamarine hues.
A trek that bold calls for a hearty meal, which is what you’ll find at Andreas Keller Restaurant. Since 1989, the family-owned tavern has been cooking up some seriously comforting food — which is ideal to wash down with one of their many imported draft beers. Unsure of what to order? The best is the wurst (try Knackwurst, Bratwurst, Weisswurst, and many more).

Positioned east of Salt Lake City, this town initially made its mark during the 19th-century silver mining rush. Historic Main Street feels like stepping back in time. While you can easily stroll from end to end of the street, an optimal overview of the heart of downtown can be found aboard the free trolley, which loops around Main Street every 15 minutes.
After getting a lay of the land, it’s time to fuel up. You’ll be hard-pressed to find a more taste bud-tempting brunch than at Five5eeds. The Australian cafe is known for its A+ Aussie coffee and its towering avocado toast, which comes garnished with a poached egg, savory granola, and cute little crudités.
That dish will be just the boost you need to go for gold at Utah Olympic Park, which was constructed for the Salt Lake City 2002 Olympic Winter Games. The nearly 400-acre facility is home to a museum, a training center, and plenty of adventure activities. Between November through April, those over age 16 can hop aboard a bobsled to feel the exhilaration of whizzing down the track at up to five times the force of gravity.
After coming back down to earth, mosey over to catch a show at Egyptian Theatre. Beyond recently welcoming popular musicals like Rent and bands like A Flock of Seagulls, the venue hosts the Sundance Film Festival every January.

Just north of the New Mexico border, locals and transplants alike flocked to Durango during the 1860s-era mining boom. At the peak of the gold rush, the train to Durango carried more than $300 million in precious metals. Today, Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge Railroad welcomes thousands of passengers on a tour of the area’s mountains and canyons. The scenery might look oddly familiar; Durango has been the set for so many movies, it’s sometimes referred to as the Hollywood of the Rockies.
Set aside time to soak in another local natural feature: hot springs. Secure a two- or three-hour day pass at Durango Hot Springs Resort & Spa and soothe your muscles in more than 40 soaking pools. The mineral-rich springs feature temps between 99 and 112 degrees and are said to have beneficial healing properties.
Fast-casual and creative fare don’t often go hand-in-hand. James Ranch Grill is a roadside restaurant that serves up locally sourced dishes amid bucolic views. Chicken, cows, and pigs feast on grass on the 400-acre ranch in the Animas Valley, and regenerative vegetables are grown at neighboring farms. BLTs and beet salads are top-notch, but you can’t miss the burgers, which are topped with mushrooms; showered in green chile pico; or fully loaded with blue cheese, bacon, and barbecue sauce.

In the afternoon, hop over to Vermont Brewers Association’s Burlington Beer Trail to take flight at local gems like Switchback Brewing Co., and Zero Gravity Craft Brewery.
For among the prettiest sunset scenes in the area, head to Waterfront Park for a post-dinner stroll. Situated along the Lake Champlain shoreline, the park’s trail offers majestic views of the Adirondack Mountains. Take a seat on one of the swinging benches to soak up every last drop of vibrant daylight.

The North Shore’s jewel is the Napali Coast, a 17-mile stretch of 4,000-foot-tall cliffs. Explore its many facets by renting a half-day private boat charter to snorkel, explore, and sightsee. Koa from Komohana Charters is a storied captain, adept at navigating through otherworldly sea caves and by tumbling waterfalls.

Day 4
Have dinner in the town of Volcano, just a few minutes from the entrance to Hawaii Volcanoes National Park. Glassblowers, painters, ceramic artists, and other creatives make their home in this rustic village set amid a verdant rainforest. Or opt for a change of scenery. About a 45-minute drive from the park, Hilo sets the table for culinary and nightlife adventures. Raise your spirits over kombucha cocktails and tacos at The Booch Bar, then treat your sweet tooth at Sugar Coast Candy.
Evening
Go on foot to get even closer to the volcanic volatility. The paved Devastation Trail is an easy stroll through a stark, still-recovering landscape buried by lava fountains from the 1959 Kilauea Iki eruption. Hike the more challenging Kilauea Iki Trail down through a rainforest to a solidified lava lake. And walk through nearby Nahuku, a 500-year-old lava tunnel.
afternoon
Spend your first day exploring the Big Island’s famed volcanoes and lava fields. At Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, follow 11-mile Crater Rim Drive by car to survey the summits of Kilauea and Mauna Loa and check out craters and petroglyphs. The park’s Kilauea Visitor Center will get you oriented. Or charter a chopper from Blue Hawaiian Helicopters for an aerial tour.
morning
Before the sun sets, experience one of Kona’s beaches, which epitomize Polynesian paradise with their fine white sand and calm, clear water. Maniniowali Beach on Kua Bay, and Hapuna Beach, a bit farther north, rank among the world’s best. Kailua Bay dazzles just after sunset, when fading rays reflect on the ocean. Aloha comes in liquid form at Kona Brewing Co. Savor your new vacation memories over a pint and hand-tossed pizza before the journey home.
Evening
Rebel Kitchen showcases the island’s bounty through dishes like Coconut Curry Ono, Jerk Chicken sandwiches, and Hawaiian Fire Wings. The restaurant is also known for its flavorful homemade sauces. After lunch, pick up a bottle of Kona Ketchup, Hawaiian Fire Sauce, or Mauka Mustard to enjoy later. South of Historic Kailua Village at Kahaluu Beach Park, look for Hawaiian green sea turtles scuttling along the shore.
afternoon
Today, focus on the Kona Coast, the west side of the Big Island, known for its coffee and surfing. Start at Heavenly Hawaiian Kona Coffee Farm Tours, where you'll learn about the rich heritage of Kona coffee and how it’s carefully cultivated on the island. Afterward, sip the rare, complex brew amid the farm’s verdant scenery — and give resident dog Charlie a few ear scratches.

Before you venture into the more remote parts of Hill Country, embrace San Antonio’s Mexican roots across all three meals. Hit La Panadería for breakfast. David and José Cáceres, the brothers who own the cafe, are passionate, accomplished bakers who rise early to craft a variety of pan dulce (Mexican sweet bread) each morning. When lunch comes around, it’s time for the city’s signature dish: the puffy taco. The deep-fried, inflated tortilla serves as an airy pillow — with a bit of a crunch — for your beans, beef, or chicken. You can find them all over San Antonio, but head to Ray’s Drive Inn for the original. Beneath the moonlight on the San Antonio River Walk, enjoy Ácenar’s menu of Tex-Mex favorites: enchiladas, chile relleno, or spicy shrimp. Bread pudding or mini churros beckon for dessert.
San Antonio Staples
Across 9 million acres, Texas Hill Country’s rolling topography and rocky soil are perfect for growing grapes. The region is home to more than 100 wineries, and many of them dot US-290 from Fredericksburg to Johnson City. At Texas Wine Collective, you can sample wines from three Lone Star State wineries (Brennan Vineyards, Lost Oak Winery, and McPherson Cellars) while lounging in the shade on the outdoor patio. Have a more wild taste? Sip rosé at the Rhinory as you wave hello to Blake, the winery-meets-wildlife preserve’s white rhinoceros. Or book a tour and tasting at the stately Becker Vineyards. These wines have been poured in the White House and the Texas governor’s mansion, and you can get a behind-the-scenes look at how they’re fermented, aged, and bottled.
Wine-Lovers’ Paradise
If you’re looking to explore Hill Country’s smaller communities, belly up to a local barbecue pit. The Salt Lick BBQ in Driftwood still employs its limestone pit that was first built in 1967; brisket sits for at least 20 hours and its dripping sauce produces a unique smoky flavor. In Spicewood, Opie’s BBQ beckons with a 12-foot-long smoke pit piled high with ‘cued ribs, chicken, and sausage. Delectable sides like tater tot casserole and spicy corn round out the meal. For the hungriest, order the “Big Chop,” an inches-thick pork chop, or anything cooked cowboy-style at Cooper’s Old Time Pit Bar-B-Que in Llano.
Small-Town Barbecue
Leave the driving to someone else and ride the 290 Wine Shuttle. The hop-on, hop-off service stops at 17 wineries and distilleries every 15 minutes.
TIP
Hearty helpings. Sweet desserts. Meals that harken back to your childhood. Comfort-food classics abound in Hill Country. Near two natural destinations (Garner State Park and Lost Maples State Natural Area), Utopia’s Lost Maples Cafe will fill your plate with chicken-fried steak, a patty melt, or fudge pecan pie after a day of exploration. If your pie cravings persist, Texas Pie Company in Kyle has more than a dozen varieties, including a savory chicken pot pie. You might recognize Mac and Ernie’s Roadside Eatery in Tarpley from Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives or Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. The catfish basket is its best-selling dish, but the menu also features specialty items like the red deer or cabrito (goat) burger, plus secret-family-recipe banana pudding.
Down-Home Favorites
Germans began immigrating to Texas Hill Country in the mid-1800s, founding towns like Fredericksburg and New Braunfels as Texas was transitioning from its own republic to statehood. Fast-forward 180 years, and you can still taste the flavors those immigrants brought with them across the Atlantic. In Fredericksburg,
Otto’s German Bistro features farm-to-table dishes that also draw inspiration from Austria. Dig into the Zitronwaffel (a lemon-ricotta waffle) or Flammkuchen (a flatbread topped with cream, Gruyère, and lardon). One block southwest on Main Street, The Ausländer serves Bavarian delights like Rouladen (roast beef, pickles, and onions over noodles and topped with gravy). At Krause’s Cafe in New Braunfels, German classics like Wiener schnitzel and bratwurst coexist alongside Texan dishes like catfish and chicken-fried steak. For the best of both worlds, try the Texas schnitzel — with jalapeño gravy — as you sip a liter in the cafe’s beer hall.

The visual splendor of Bryce Canyon is enough to stop any visitor in their tracks, but seeing two tiny tots observe its sheer magnitude is especially touching.

I feel like I have almost grown up with RCI. RCI has allowed me to learn and develop with endless opportunities throughout the years. I have travelled to many RCI resorts all over the world and was lucky enough to experience the excellent quality of resorts our members get to experience, and then pass on my knowledge. RCI has also provided an excellent work-life balance, which is invaluable to our two little girls.

Within this setting, every day presents a chance to learn and grow. I'm constantly challenged to broaden my skill set, whether it's in customer service, cultural understanding, or problem-solving. And the beauty of this role is the global network of colleagues. It's invigorating to connect with individuals from various backgrounds and cultures, sharing experiences and ideas. This diversity in perspectives not only enhances our teamwork but also broadens my own worldview.

Minimalist lines and the seamless blending of indoor-outdoor spaces are pinnacles of desert modernism architecture. In the birthplace of that iconic style, those same attributes define the visitor experience come spring. Natural and engineered elements weave together a stunning desert escape at Sunnylands Center & Gardens, featuring art exhibitions, a cafe, and walking trails. For a bird’s-eye view of the greater landscape, book a lift on the world’s largest rotating tram car with Palm Springs Aerial Tramway. The temperature can drop more than 30 degrees during the 10-minute ride from the desert floor to Mt. San Jacinto State Park. Back at warmer elevation, architectural innovation dominates the city blocks, where Hollywood stars nearly share fence lines. Reach out to PS Architecture Tours for a deep dive into the artistry and history – and inquire about other customized tours. Self-guided walks can also guide you to the Elvis Honeymoon Hideaway, Kaufmann Desert House, and a trove of other estates that sparked the mid-century modern craze. Between your stops, refuel at Spencer’s Restaurant for fine dining al fresco or try the legendary Billy Reed’s, where they've been serving up massive cinnamon rolls and elevated diner food since the 1970s.
You don’t have to venture far from Phoenix to encounter the wide-open Sonoran Desert stretching beyond the horizon. Just follow the majestic saguaro cacti reaching for the sky. Guided horseback rides through Cave Creek Outfitters channel the timeless spirit of the Wild West, with cowboy cookouts and options for riders of all levels. For a more modern excursion close to Old Town Scottsdale, hop on the saddle of an e-bike at Pedego Scottsdale or Rides N Motion. The Arizona Canal Path presents dozens of miles of smooth trail and the landmark Soleri Bridge and Plaza. Art lovers get lost in the collection at the Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art, which elevates architecture and design while hosting one-of-a-kind events. Through March, a monthly Knight Rise at Sunset workshop places attendees inside a James Turrell Skyspace enclosure for a unique view of the setting sun — and the chance to paint it yourself in watercolors. To really rev up the architectural delight, consider a self-guided Scottsdale architecture driving tour. It gives a rich introduction to mid-century modern design. Just be sure to save extra time for the stop at Taliesin West, known as the desert home and laboratory for Frank Lloyd Wright, who drew deep inspiration from this alluring terrain.
The sparkly Vegas Strip is just a flicker of the magic pulsing through this land. Centuries before the lights and casinos arrived, indigenous inhabitants of the Mojave Desert etched their art into the rocks. Known as petroglyphs, more than 1,000 of the mysterious markings and figures remain vivid and accessible within Sloan Canyon National Conservation Area, just 25 miles south of the city. Bring your hiking boots for the 4-mile trek. Nearby, Red Rock Canyon is home to ancient Aztec sandstone cliff formations. Some of them bear fossilized dinosaur prints. A 13-mile scenic drive through the national conservation area makes it easy to avoid the heat, with trailheads presenting tempting side quests for hikers. The Hoover Dam also caters to drivers and walkers alike, inviting you to traverse across the top of one of America’s Seven Modern Civil Engineering Wonders. Once you’re there, straddling the Nevada-Arizona border above the Colorado River, keep driving 3½ hours east to reach the mother of all gorges. Whether you stick with the view from the top or trek to the Colorado River at the bottom, Grand Canyon National Park promises to alter your perspective on the power of water, rock, and time.
