What Does Regenerative Farming Have To Do With My Supplements?
An Expert Explains
Where would we be without our supplements? We have nothing but love for that handful of feel-good nutrition every day… But what if our supplement routine could mean even more? These days, it’s not just about finding the perfect ingredients. With our planet’s soil less nutrient-dense than it once was, where and how these ingredients are grown is just as important. As it turns out, regenerative farming has a lot to do with our supplement routine—so we turned to Kristina Hall, founder of True Grace, to learn more!
Meet the expert
Kristina Hall is the Founder of True Grace—a brand of nutrient-dense supplements formulated to improve the health of body and planet for generations to come. Her passion for health and wellness grew from seeing first-hand the health challenges faced by her father, who battled metastatic prostate cancer for two years. Becoming a mother of two furthered her passion for the health of all people and our planet.

Regenerative agriculture: Better soil, better food, better supplements?
Regenerative agriculture is the term for farming practices that restore and maintain the health of people and the planet. From inequities in the industry to climate resilience, there are many aspects to regenerative farming, but the health of our soil is one of the most urgent.
“Worldwide, approximately
50% of the soil is degraded”
“Worldwide, approximately 50% of the soil is degraded,” says our expert, Kristina Hall. “And degraded soil grows depleted food that lacks nutrients it once had. According to the Rodale Institute, today’s food has less protein, calcium, phosphorus, iron, riboflavin, and vitamin C than food 50 years ago. If we keep up this pace of degradation, there are only 53 harvests left.” Thankfully, the momentum of the regenerative agriculture movement is reason to stay hopeful.
“Regenerative agriculture is a different way to farm that actually rebuilds carbon-rich soil; that sustains life on this planet,” Hall explains. “Regenerative agriculture means better food, because nutrient-dense soil gives us nutrient-dense plants.” But does it also mean better supplements?

Part of the reason why supplements are so important traces back to the health of our soil. “Food today isn’t as nutrient-dense as it was 50 years ago,” explains Hall, nodding to soil depletion as the culprit. Add in the fact that our on-the-go culture often means more processed foods, less fresh fruits and veggies—and we’ve got a need for nutrients.
Such were the problems that inspired Hall to launch her supplement company, True Grace (find it at The Vitamin Shoppe!). With a mission to support health through nutrient-dense supplements, much of their work surrounds the health of our soil. “Degraded soil grows depleted food that lacks nutrients it once had,” Hall says. “We use regenerative ingredients whenever possible.”
“All of our [multivitamins] have regenerative organic adaptogens like holy basil and ashwagandha,” Kristina shares. The regenerative and organic adaptogens in their One Daily Women’s Multivitamin, for example, combine with key vitamins like zinc and biotin to support daily energy, balance, and immune function.*
Plus, quality is always first and foremost with True Grace—just take their Mushroom Lion’s Mane, which utilizes mushrooms grown on their natural food source and hand-harvested at their peak for brain and cognitive support.* Or their Omega-3 Fish Oil, highly-concentrated, but also sustainably sourced from wild-caught Alaskan fish to promote brain, heart, and immune health.*

Support our farmers,
save our oceans
Beyond soil restoration, the regenerative agriculture movement strives to support farmers and challenge norms. “[We provide] 300 hours of consulting to farmers that want to convert their land to regenerative organic, in partnership with Rodale Institute,” describes Hall. “We also partner with Rodale on the vegetable systems trial, which studies and compares the nutrients in conventionally grown crops versus regenerative.”
Going above and beyond is their style. Even the True Grace packaging is Earth-friendly, using ocean waste plastic and refillable pouches to minimize their carbon footprint. Plus, “for every bottle and pouch of True Grace sold, plastic is being pulled out of waterways in Jakarta, Indonesia by local fishermen employed by the ReSea Project. So far, True Grace has helped pull over 6,000 pounds of plastic from the ocean.”
"Regenerative agriculture is a message of hope,” Hall says, and we’d have to agree. Just by shopping the array of True Grace supplements at The Vitamin Shoppe, we can help support this movement. But what else can we do?
“Step one is to ask your local grocer to support regenerative agriculture by bringing in both produce and finished goods that are regeneratively grown,” Hall suggests. From there, she suggests getting involved with nonprofits that champion regenerative agriculture—such as Rodale, Green America, Carbon Underground and Kiss the Ground.
We all deserve a supplement routine that means more… One that represents the change we’d like to see in the world, and one that protects our planet for generations to come. Consider this your starting point.
