When Volvo first unveiled its C40 Recharge in 2021, the fully electric crossover came bearing an all-wheel-drive system powered by a dual-motor setup, with one motor affixed to each axle and a 75.0-kWh battery pack positioned in between. The AWD variant is punchy and powerful, now producing 402 horsepower and 494 pound-feet of torque. Additionally, the C40 Recharge now offers a variant with longer driving range and faster charging times than in years prior.
The 2024 model year sees the addition of a rear-wheel-drive C40 Recharge; it’s the first time in 25 years that Volvo has had a rear-wheel-drive variant. Underpinned by a new 82.0-kWh battery pack, the RWD version produces a competitive 248 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque.
Volvo has tuned the C40 Recharge’s chassis to deliver comfort and stability, so the crossover keeps its composure on snaking sideroads and highway passes, delivering a smooth ride quality and rapid torque delivery.
On a full charge, the single motor extended range version affords up to a 297-mile range¹. The dual motor extended range versions offer up to a 257-mile range². The RWD variant is capable of plugging into a 150kW DC fast charger, which needs a mere 28 minutes to replenish the battery from 10 to 80 percent. The AWD variant can plug into a 150 kW DC charger and charge from 10-80 percent in around 34 minutes³. When you opt to plug in at home, it will take roughly 7 or 8 hours to charge from 0 to 100 percent with an 11kW AC fast charger.
