Klersun was formed to unlock the potential of all that
the hemp plant has to offer so that it can be applied
toward a common good. Klersun aspires to be an
integral part of the moral compass in the ever-growing
CBD marketplace and to help lead the industry along
the right path.
Klersun refer to themselves as “Makers of better”:
Better products, better ingredients, better partnerships and better care for the planet.” As Carl Jonsson, Klersun’s director of marketing, says, “Our goal is to bring integrity and to add real value to this rapidly evolving market.”
What it means to be better
Its commitment to better has manifested in many ways,
including taking the initiative to have its Broad Spectrum Hemp Extract achieve a self-affirmed GRAS designation. “For us, we like to approach our business by taking those extra steps to go above and beyond. Not just doing what is required but really paving the way for a common good,” says Jonsson.
In attaining self-affirmed GRAS status, Klersun
partnered with Manitoba Harvest and Robertet, the
200-year-old French producer of natural flavors and
fragrances who Klersun has joint ventures with.
Rising tide lifts all ships—especially in the young CBD industry
To further develop the industry, Klersun believes this
type of collaboration is imperative to develop and gain
traction for best business practices. “Collaboration is
needed to align on best practices and correct
terminologies. As this young industry is still very much
in development, there is a great need for this,” says
Jonsson. “We think the idea of community and trust
within the community also are important,” he adds.
CBD #goals
In producing products, Klersun uses third-party testing
and the company also has its own in-house testing lab.
Testing is done on all batches, so there is full
traceability and lab reports for each product.
In addition, the company will begin to offer certified
organic product by the end of the first quarter of 2020.
In addition, they are members of the American Herbal
Products Association (AHPA), the Hemp Industry’s
Association (HIA) and the Oregon Industrial Hemp
Farmers Association (OIHFA). This is all a part of
the goal of doing better.
Hemp’s future is bright
Klersun is not just about testing and producing CBD
extracts. “That is our main product, but the long-term
goal is to uncover all of these things that the hemp
plant has to offer that we don’t even know yet,” says
Jonsson. Acknowledging that a lack of clinical studies is
one of the primary challenges the hemp and CBD
industry faces, Klersun partnered with Oregon State
University’s Hemp Innovation Lab to further explore the
science behind CBD, what cannabinoids are and how
they truly interact with the body. “With the university,
we can collaborate on research together, as we extract
and do research and development. We can pose
questions to them in a very collaborative research
approach,” explains Jonsson.
And this, he says, is only just the beginning. “The
most exciting thing about hemp is not what we know,
but what we don’t know. Humans have been
cultivating hemp for more than 10,000 years, yet we
have only scratched the surface in respect to the
science and knowledge of this plant,” explains Jonsson.
“The hemp plant has an incredible amount of untapped
potential and it's an exciting time. We are just now able
to look at and evaluate research on this plant. There is
a lot of human value that we can discover, whether it is
medicinal or otherwise. We are excited about what this
plant has to offer.”
