Testing, standards and innovative technology married with a strong, passionate leadership define SoRSE Technology. As a functional ingredient supplier, SoRSE is a behind-the-scenes leader in water-soluble emulsion technology for adding CBD, hemp and terpenes to beverages, food items and topicals. It does this while ensuring homogeneity, stability, near-perfect dosing and safe ingredients. In addition, the company works to packaging and potency requirements.
It's clear that SoRSE is all about high standards, striving to remove the gray in the industry by implementing food & beverage best practices when applicable. This is a good thing given the current regulatory environment and the fact that accurate dosing and the understanding and implementation of GMP standards continue to be challenges facing the hemp and CBD industry. “Given the conversations around the FDA and cannabis, there’s a lot of gray area and questions from brands about where CBD stands as an ingredient,” says Scott Riefler, SoRSE chief science officer. “Each time letters are sent out from the FDA, there's a flurry of concern and hesitancy from brands - even when it's the same issue happening year after year where brands are making health claims, which is not permitted. The media kicks it up, creating unnecessary concern.” Hence, not only is SoRSE navigating the space, the company also is educating others in the industry about these events.
The company has become a leader in educating others on supply chain and helping to elevate the industry. SoRSE regularly presents on how to select a CBD supplier, outlining for interested parties the questions to ask, answers to listen for and matters of concern such as how to read a certificate of analysis. “Not all CBD is created equal and it’s imperative that brands understand this new and evolving space,” says Riefler.
Looking toward the future, the company looks to medical research to have a measurable impact on the industry. They also believe in all that water-soluble emulsion technology has to offer, specifically agglomerated powder. “This technology opens up a new delivery method that is convenient for consumers to implement into their daily routines. It’s also convenient for the producer.” Between standard liquid, powder and agglomerated powder, nearly any food item that isn’t strictly meat or produce can be infused with CBD, hemp or terpenes,” Riefler explains.
The company also sees business groups, conferences and industry members sharing information as instrumental to the continued growth of the industry. By way of example, and in keeping with SoRSE’s role as an industry leader, Riefler points out how the company’s manager of process engineering, Emily Skrobecki, co-founded Cann-STEM, an organization connecting scientific professionals in the cannabis space. Not surprisingly, she’s been featured in articles such as ‘Fifteen Powerful and Innovative Women in Cannabis’ in Forbes and High Times’ Top 50 Women in Cannabis.
Industry sharing, says Riefler also has allowed for the merging of two groups – cannabis/CBD advocates and mainstream professionals entering the space. “We can all play in the same sandbox,” he adds.
