How Billy Blue creates innovative, game-changing graduates
Making it in a creative industry has always been tough. But institutions like Billy Blue College of Design are here to help with their unmatched industry focus, and passion for innovation.
Holding the keys to your future on the brink of graduation is one thing. Having those keys shaped by a work-ready education model, moulded by industry mentorship, and forged, not through fire, but unbridled creativity, is another.
At Billy Blue College of Design, graduates are empowered with experience and connected to industry in fresh, innovative and exciting new ways, leaving students with not just an education after conferral, but an industry-ready career, too.
One of Billy Blue’s most exciting programs is ‘INTRO’, the graduate showcase that exhibits the work of talented students from across all facets of the design universe to key industry leaders and prospective employers.
Holly Villagra, a branded fashion design graduate, describes ‘INTRO' as a space that “promotes our own creative ability but equally provides a space to hold conversations with like-minded individuals.”
As part of her final trimester, the designer also had an opportunity to present ‘Touch Down’—the first collection from her brand, Artyst—to a live industry panel, which allowed her to practise public speaking and pitching skills.
Through her academic achievements, Ms Villagra was awarded the college’s internship with Vogue Australia, an experience that was also facilitated by Billy Blue’s ‘success coach’ program, where students are paired with a mentor throughout their degree.
“Billy Blue has a lot of connections with leading Australian industry partners when it comes to fashion and they allow you to leverage that opportunity to create connections and build a portfolio.”

The learning at Billy Blue is guided by both an industry-led curriculum and exposure to new thinking and techniques. “The discipline area of design is ever evolving, meaning the relationship between industry and education is critical,” explains the college’s academic director, Nathan Scoular.
The sentiment is echoed by alumna, Phoebe Perkins, who chose Billy Blue to study her Bachelor of Communication Design to be able to work on live briefs with real clients.
Having undertaken an internship at Opal Healthcare and had the opportunity to present a design project at the Torrens University summit in Adelaide, she expresses a deep appreciation for the skills, knowledge and experience that the college provided to bridge the gap between university and an industry career.
Sophie Pilati, interior design graduate, and Julia Kadlec, communication design graduate were both hired as a direct result of Billy Blue's Portfolio Review process. Pilati is now a Junior Interior Designer with industry partner PTW Architects and Kadlec, now a Junior Designer at digital agency Creative Platform.
