Dyson’s Supersonic hair dryer is perfect for literally every hairstyle AND HAIR TYPE
HERE'S HOW.
Technology in the men’s grooming world has jumped leaps and bounds over the years. But even though the products we use to wash, style and dry our hair are scientific marvels these days, far too often, men are content to wash their mane once a week and run an oily supermarket gel through it every day. But would we be quite so complacent if we knew what was possible?
One tool in particular that men tend to undervalue as part of their hair routine is a hair dryer, and there is none more powerful and versatile than the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer. Over nearly 30 years, Dyson has established itself as one of the foremost global technology companies. Its vacuums and air purifiers are the industry standard, and the same goes for its hair dryer, the Supersonic.
When it comes to long hair, the Supersonic is a legit life hack. If you’re used to your hair taking ages to dry, the Supersonic will blow you out of the water. Thanks to its incredible drying power and precision, you can dry your hair in sections—which is how you should dry long hair for best results—without spending 20 minutes in the bathroom.
For dry, wavy, frizzy or curly hair, we recommend using the diffuser attachment which is designed to disperse air more evenly, giving it a much more natural drying effect. From here, set the Supersonic to low on both the speed and heat settings and starting with the sides hold the diffuser onto sections of your hair until it is dry. Once they are done, tilt your head down and do the same for the hair above the back of your neck. Give yourself a good old-fashioned hair flip, shake it out, and you’re good to go.
With five separate attachments, the Supersonic was created to style and dry all hair types without extreme heat that can lead to damaged hair. Using intelligent heat control, the Supersonic checks the temperature of the airflow 40 times a second to protect your hair. It does all this without sounding like a jet turbine, thanks to its acoustically-tuned digital V9 motor that spins 110,000 RPM without making a peep.
All of that magic technology is impressive on paper, but it’s the versatility of styles you can perfect with the Supersonic hair dryer that really makes it stand out. Read on for our tips on how to use the Dyson Supersonic hair dryer to style long, medium and short hairstyles.
LONG, SHAGGY HAIR
You might not think to use a hair dryer if you’ve got relatively short hair, but just taking minutes with it in the morning makes all the difference when it comes to maintaining your style all day long.
There are two different phases for perfect styling here. First, you want to equip the gentle hair attachment to quickly dry the shorter hairs on the back and sides of your head. This attachment dries your hair quickly while caring for the scalp. For people with finer hair, this attachment is perfect.
Next, put on the styling concentrator attachment which directs a high-velocity of air in concentrated segments giving you maximum control. Use this with a brush or a comb to push your hair backwards and shape it into a perfect coif. Add a little wax as a finishing touch to help it hold.
Short back and sides with some volume up top
Nothing ruins a tight fade faster than unruly curls or one part of your hair going in a different direction from the rest. Here, you want to pass the Supersonic over your hair (making sure to keep the direction consistent) using the gentle air attachment first until your hair is about 80 per cent dry. If you want to get slightly more volume at the top of the fade, you can then use the wide tooth comb attachment to stretch out and style the curls, while drying it simultaneously.
