If Tokyo is Japan’s big, beating heart, then Kyoto is its quiet, contemplative soul. Brimming with imperial history – it was the capital of Japan for more than 1000 years – Kyoto’s gardens, temples and wooden houses give it the appearance of a picture-perfect Zen village in parts, despite its 1.46 million inhabitants. Sleek and modern, The Thousand Kyoto is only a few minutes walk from Kyoto Station and 10 minutes from the imposing Higashi Honganji Temple complex. Celebrate sakura (cherry blossom) season between mid-March and mid-April by indulging in some hanami (flower viewing) at Maruyama Park, a two-minute walk from the APA Hotel Kyoto Gion EXCELLENT.
