AFTER nine years of living with a multicoloured kitchen that didn’t quite work, Charlotte Coleman needed to switch it up.
The interior stylist and content creator, who lives in rural Wiltshire, came up with the old scheme herself – but in hindsight things could have been better thought through.
Free design service works wonders for interior stylist’s kitchen revamp
Too much bright paint and a sink by a window overlooking parked cars didn’t help.
On top of that, she’d built a huge island that dominated the space.
And her mistake with measurements meant there was no room for enough seating.
When the time came for an overhaul, she headed to B&Q to use its free design service – and the team worked wonders.
Now the kitchen’s a light, family-friendly room with lots of storage,
but still retains some of its original charm.
“My experience from start to finish was brilliant – the instore design appointment exceeded my expectations and I have ended up with a kitchen that was better than I could have imagined,” Charlotte says.
With the help of the team, she decided to get rid of the AGA cooker, which had been converted to electric and cost more per day to run than the rest of the house.
In its place she installed a cream Rangemaster Range Cooker from B&Q with an induction hob that’s super easy to clean.
The sink was relocated to face out over the garden, and she made sure the bin and dishwasher were situated nearby.
The new Tydeman solid wood doors from B&Q are painted in antique rose and designed around existing workspaces to make the most of every corner.

Charlotte maximised storage with deep drawers rather than cupboards for a more efficient use of space.
B&Q also offers double drawers so you can keep cutlery and spices in the shallow top drawer and larger items underneath.
The glass-fronted wall cabinets allow Charlotte to see all her pretty crockery at a glance, while the room feels lighter and brighter – it’s a great trick for making a small kitchen feel spacious.
She opted for a larder pantry cupboard to keep the coffee machine and kettle hidden from view, and it provides easy access to teabags, mugs and sugar.

“Any design issues were solved effectively so I didn’t have to compromise on what I wanted,” says Charlotte.
“The kitchen has lots of clever storage.
“I especially like the rotating corner cupboard and pantry unit.
“I’m so happy and would recommend B&Q to anyone looking for a new kitchen.”
B&Q’s design experts can help you avoid costly mistakes like putting lighting in the wrong places or miscalculating the size of an island – so no more surprises when the kitchen’s fitted and there’s no room for seats.
The team will also assist with finance and fitting, leaving you free to worry about the most important details – like the colour.
