As someone whose life revolves around travel and food, I was excited to visit the five-star Regnum Carya resort in Turkey.
Although I must admit that I was doubtful an all-inclusive holiday could offer a truly memorable dining experience. And as a person of Turkish heritage, I had little expectation that the food would be truly authentic.
These doubts vanished the moment I arrived to see a woman in traditional dress holding a rolling pin while sitting cross-legged on the floor. She was making fresh gözleme to order: unleavened flat bread stuffed with your choice of fillings, from cheese and mint to mincemeat. It’s an unforgettable Turkish treat.

And indulgent is the word: in the Köz Ocakbasi restaurant, the tender skewered lamb, delectable lamb chops and adana kebab (made with minced lamb) were cooked to perfection over charcoal, and an accompaniment of marinated fresh onion, refreshing parsley and tasty chargrilled peppers and tomatoes turned this simple meal into a symphony of flavours.
The spectacular luxury family resort has bright, spacious accommodation organised around multiple swimming pools, all within easy reach of the deep blue sea.

The All Inclusive Plus at Regnum Carya is guaranteed to make any holiday one to remember for food lovers like me. Included is buffet-style breakfast, late breakfast, lunch and dinner in the main restaurant, as well as unlimited use of selected à la carte restaurants for dinner. Snacks, ice cream and hot and cold food are available 20 hours a day.
The enticing food court near the beach is a cluster of chic shacks where you can find everything from baked potatoes – a Turkish fast-food staple – to ice cream.
International options include the Tramonto Italian, specialising in homemade pasta, pizza and arancini, Seahorse for ocean-fresh seafood (plus caviar, for an extra charge) and Kushimoto for sushi.
Dining at Ubon, Regnum Carya’s Thai restaurant, is also included. Don’t miss the excellent pad Thai and coconut-infused puddings.
Among the highlights at fish restaurant Sandal is the grilled seabass with meze on the side, including cured fish, bean salad, marinated greens and more. Grill Do Brasil, meanwhile, serves beautifully prepared meats.
But I simply couldn’t stay away from the Turkish cooking for long. Olive Restaurant offers classic local dishes, from simple lentil soup with a squeeze of lemon to a salad cart bursting with fragrant fresh herbs, salad leaves, hummus, homemade dressings and the finest Turkish olives. Main dishes pair sizzling steaks, lamb chops and kebabs – or mouthwatering vegetarian options like aubergine and tomato dish imam bayildi – with seemingly never-ending sides, such as Turkish rice, sautéed vegetables and fresh bread.
Regnum Carya even has something special for kids (apart from the fact that Free Child Places** make family breaks incredible value). Children get their own dining areas in the JR Gourmet and Chuckles Kids Club restaurants, which serve classic burgers and scrumptious salads. Babies enjoy HIPP baby food, as well as formula available in designated areas. No one is left out and nothing is left to chance.
That said, some experiences are worth paying for, even on an All Inclusive Plus ticket. The fantastic, theatrical teppanyaki at Kushimoto incurs an additional charge, as does the Peruvian restaurant Maia, the Alia Beach Club’s Mediterranean-inspired menu and the premium steaks at the Sevk-Et Steakhouse.
