aking photographs has never been easier – most of us have a smartphone we can whip out at a second’s notice to capture a get-together with family and friends, some beautiful scenery or an unexpected moment.
But getting round to printing those photos is often a different matter. Most of us experience digital overload, but it can be incredibly easy to turn your memories
into photo gifts – physical reminders that can be enjoyed every day of the year.
CEWE allows you to create a host of personalised presents with your favourite photographs, from albums and toys to phone covers. Or why not put together a photo calendar that’s guaranteed to make the recipient smile and will look great
on their wall (or yours)?
It’s the perfect present, and there’s no need to leave the comfort of home or spend hours combing the shops. Plus, a calendar is for the whole year, not just Christmas. It will be enjoyed long after the chocolates have been eaten or the dog has run off with your Santa socks.
The only hard bit is which images to choose. We challenged three people to tell us about the four favourite images they plan to put in a 2023 CEWE calendar, and why it’s always great to remember a special moment.

How to enjoy your digital photos all year round
New mum Ella Buchan, 42, a food and drink writer from North Shields, loved documenting her daughter’s first year and a move to the seaside. She says a calendar of her most loved photos will make a perfect gift
for baby Ramona’s doting grandparents
Helen says: “Like most parents, I have a camera roll packed with pictures of everyday life: the kids having breakfast, my daughter on a swing with her head thrown back in glee, my son and his friend on Brighton seafront, the living room after I’ve finally tidied up...
“I take hundreds of photos, but every so often you capture a perfect moment. I’m running out of wall space to display my favourites but I don’t want them to just be in my phone for ever, so a calendar is a great idea – you can see a new memory every month.
“Each December, I create a photo calendar for my family, and this year I’m making one for myself too. It’s not just a wonderful reminder of the times we’ve shared;
the planner is also really useful for jotting down everything we’re doing next year.
“The photo of Anna Maria Island at sunset is a favourite from our trip to Florida in October, and the one with the kids and Minnie Mouse must go in. The photo of my dad and daughter Isobel at Christmas is of a really special moment, but I also managed a kid-free weekend with my best friend in Paris back in March – that will definitely make the cut.”
Looking forward

Ella says: “We all have our phones on hand, ready to capture every little
moment. The flip side is that our most precious memories can get lost, stuck
in the digital world.
“My phone is overwhelmed after an eventful year. I’m writing a cookbook with
my friend Allie; I moved from London to the North East with my partner, Lee; and living close to the beach, I’ve taken up sea swimming. Oh, and we had our first
child, Ramona, who was born in May!
“Selecting just four images was a difficult but joyous task. There’s the late summer’s day at the beach with our rescue dog, Dolly; an afternoon spent baking for the cookbook, which is full of recipes inspired by gothic novels; a sunrise swim in my local bay; and the sheer joy that Ramona brings to her dad’s face.
“For me, the beauty of creating a photo book or calendar is that you have the opportunity to relive all those times, bringing them back into the physical world. Otherwise they’d just be taking up space on my phone rather than being on view and enjoyed every day.”
Helen Wright, 41, from Epping, Essex, is a travel editor and founder of passportstamps.uk, a travel blog. Her calendar bursts with reminders
of family adventures
Helen says: “Going to Buckingham Palace for a garden party after I got my British Empire Medal was lovely. We had afternoon tea and then Prince Charles and the Duchess of Cornwall came out.
“I was so shocked to get the award – I don’t know who nominated me. It was for supporting people during the pandemic, when it was all very scary. Borth is a seaside village and people could easily feel frightened and alone. We wanted to combat the loneliness and isolation. I managed a team of volunteers and we did
lots for elderly people, families or those on their own.
“Right now, with the cost of living, we’ve carried on that support. We have a Warm Welcome Space that anyone can come to and a pay-as-you-feel café.
“Aside from going to Buckingham Palace, my favourite picture is of my daughter Eleanor’s graduation from Chester University. It was delayed due to Covid and we weren’t sure it would happen, so that was really special, especially as she’s travelling in Australia now.
“The shot of me in the sea is one my son Oliver recreated from an old photo of me in Ringmore, Devon. My grandparents ran the village shop there and it was where
I first went into the sea as a teeny-tiny little one, no more than nine months old. He said, ‘I’ve seen that photo of you, Mum, let me take another one now.” It’s the same, just half a century on.
“I also love the photo of my son Oliver, who’s 16, in Crete this summer. We don’t often get away and I’m making the most of that special time when teenagers still want to do things with you – it’s a memory I know I will really enjoy reliving.”
Helen Williams, 55, a community centre manager, was given
a new year honour last year for the work she does in Borth, Ceredigion, running the Community Hub. It’s one highlight she would like to capture in a calendar for her office wall to inspire her to help more people
