To create your bespoke plan, the team assesses you when you arrive, undertaking diagnostic tests and analysis to determine what treatment will work best for you.
This includes evaluating your diet and nutritional requirements before creating a meal plan packed with natural, locally sourced ingredients to boost the number and diversity of your microbiome – the intestinal micro-organisms that enhance gut heath.
“Other processes might include using a cleansing salt to clean your digestive system, which helps your microbiome develop in a positive way,” says Dr Schubert.
High-tech treatment for rapid healing
The clinic also offers a range of therapies that concentrate on raising the potential of your mitochondria – elements present in every cell that are crucial for creating energy.
“Mitochondria are our body’s power plant,” explains Dr Schubert. “To boost their power, as well as helping reduce inflammation, we use treatments such as cryotherapy, hypoxic training, ozone treatment, and even different types of intravenous drips.”
Cryotherapy uses the application of extreme cold to reduce inflammation. Ozone treatment increases the amount of oxygen in the blood, which raises immunity and energy levels, and improves cognition.
Intravenous drip therapy delivers nutrients directly into the bloodstream to tackle digestive problems.
In hypoxic training for sportspeople, the amount of oxygen in the air is reduced – this aids performance as it increases blood flow, as well as speeding up recovery and strengthening the immune system.
In addition, guests are encouraged to take part in psychotherapy – what Mayrlife calls “emotional training”, sometimes with a psychologist, to help them deal with any mental health issues. “We want to help our guests to classify, feel and deal with their emotions properly again,” says Dr Schubert. “This is also an essential part of the holistic approach to healing the body.”

Dr Schubert and his team utilise the latest technological innovation to help you reach your health target by the end of your stay.
This includes biofrequency therapy: electrical frequencies stimulate the nervous system to increase the rate at which the body heals, helping to treat inflammatory issues and chronic musculoskeletal problems.
By taking 3D measurements of the body, Mayrlife doctors can also make an avatar of a guest’s musculoskeletal system. The tech measures your body masses and posture via three cameras that rotate around your body. This process reveals in-depth information about the alignment of your body. They can then use this information to analyse any issues of posture, body position or balance, and formulate treatments.
“The results can be quite astonishing,” says Dr Schubert. “Even after just ten days, guests have experienced revelatory health transformations – for example, sometimes we help people with chronic neck tension just by healing their digestive system.”
Dr Schubert explains that this is due to the fact that the digestive system is fixed on the lumbar vertebrae. Tension and inflammation therefore pull on the vertebrae, which can be reflected in the neck area: “The spine is like a string of pearls – if you have tension in one area, it can cause problems locally or in the reflex zones, ie in the neck area for the lumbar spine.”

Laidback luxury
Rest and relaxation comes as part of every package
What do you look for in a health resort? A programme of cutting edge therapies tailored to your needs is essential, as is supremely comfortable, premium accommodation where you can relax and re-energise. And you’ll want to stay in tranquil surroundings that calm your mind and soothe your soul.
Mayrlife, an Alpine retreat on the serene shores of Austria’s Lake Altaussee by the soaring mountains, gives you all of the above – but the personalised approach to treatment is a prime focus.
“We offer a unique selling proposition – we heal people on a completely individual basis,” explains Mayrlife CEO Dr Dieter Resch.
Medical director Dr Max Schubert adds that Mayrlife experts base every guest’s bespoke care around their gut health, improving immunity levels and so leading to better all-round wellbeing.
“The more healthy your digestive system is, the better your immune system works, as 70 to 80 per cent of your immune power lies in the digestive system,” he explains.
By focusing on digestive health, Mayrlife embraces holistic techniques, which can help improve a wide range of medical issues.

Dr Resch has designed the Mayrlife experience to be long-lasting, to help guests keep away from previous health habits when they return home.
“During their stay, guests will learn things like what they can eat when they are back home,” he says. “We also have an additional programme where you can book time to see our nutritionist and medical consultant online after your stay, to help you keep to your goals.”
And if you need extra help, you can always return to this restful resort by the lake: more than half of patients come back, sometimes several times a year. “The staff are like one big family,” says Dr Resch, “so when guests return they feel they’re coming home.”

The picture-postcard setting delivers a feeling of wellbeing
Many guests visit the resort and its clinic purely for preventative reasons and simply wish to maintain their wellbeing.
Others arrive with physical and psychological problems they need help with. These can include insomnia, stress, migraines, type 2 diabetes, inflammatory bowel disease (Crohn’s and colitis), autoimmune conditions and long Covid.
“Some patients also come in for sports-related reasons, as they want to improve their performance and boost recovery time,” says Dr Schubert.
Specific programmes look after a variety of challenges and goals, including weight care, detox, anti-inflammatory skincare and stress control.
And the programmes are delivered amid an exquisite, revitalising natural landscape that is as much a benefit as the therapies themselves.
Dr Schubert explains: “The beautiful setting is also an extra part of the treatment, as we encourage guests to take walks outside and breathe the clean air, or swim in the lake.”
