WANTED
POLICE are appealing for information about two alleged violent criminals after a young policeman sustained life-threatening
injuries. The incident occurred in an apparent gangland fight
at a scrapyard in
South London.
Speaking outside
St Julian’s Hospital in South London last night, Detective Inspector Lindsey – who is leading the investigation – named the main people of interest in the case.
DI Lindsey said: “We are appealing for anyone with information concerning the whereabouts of Gene Lord and his fiancée Cindy Carter (pictured, above) to contact us. We don’t need your name. We just want to know where they are.”
Gene Lord, 25, is the youngest son of Albert and “Mint Ma” Lord, the heads of a feared crime family once known as “the Bermondsey Krays”, who brutalised their way across South London throughout the 1960s and 1970s.
Until now, Gene’s record had been spotless, and police believe he was the only member of the family not to make a living from crime. At the scrapyard, it is possible he was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time.
His father, Albert Lord – who once nailed a waiter’s left ear to a table for putting sugar in his tea – is known to be in poor health, and Albert’s wife “Mint Ma” has struggled to maintain the Lord family’s control over their South London manor.
Police believe that the violence at the scrapyard, owned by “Metal Mickey” Dolenz, may have been part of a larger turf war that has erupted as the Lords’ power has waned.
DI Lindsey told reporters that police are working on the theory that Gene and his fiancée, Cindy, may have fled to Spain’s Costa del Sol.
She said: “We have information that a couple matching their descriptions boarded a flight from Heathrow Airport for Malaga, Spain at 6pm.”
