Take some of the hard work out of mealtimes by choosing a high-quality protein like Specially Selected Pork that’s quality assured, locally sourced and farmed with care. As it’s super versatile, quick to prep and full of flavour, it’s great place to start.
Craft Butcher Hayley Glen explains: “Pork can be a star ingredient – it cooks quickly and works well with a range of seasonings and sauces.
PORK CUTLETS
“Choose anything from pork medallions, which are really lean, to juicy pork chops for meals you can have on the table in less than 30 minutes.
“Pork is so versatile which makes it a great option when you’re looking to create tasty dinners without all the fuss.”
MARINATED PORK SKEWERS
Mum Hayley, 33, is based at The Butcher The Baker in Dundee. She reckons pork is often overlooked because people think it’s tricky to cook or because they’re not sure what to make with it. It’s a great alternative to chicken for many dishes.
She adds: “In reality pork offers exceptional value.
“It has a rich flavour and tenderness that rivals expensive cuts of other meats when cooked and prepared properly.
“I’m always happy to help customers with cooking advice and recipe ideas or to prepare the meat with spice mixes or marinades to save them prep time at home.”

Her top favourites include pork stir fry and honey mustard pork chops.
She says: “Slice pork steaks into strips, toss the meat into a hot wok and quickly stir fry with veggies, like peppers and onions, crushed garlic and soy sauce and serve it with noodles or rice for a meal that’s ready in under 20 minutes.
“I love pork recipes with honey too – the sweetness it adds is just delicious.
“Pan fry pork chops until they’re golden, mix honey and mustard together and pour it over the chops, then keep them in the pan for a couple more minutes to glaze the meat before serving with mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables.
“Again, you can have that ready in 30 minutes.”

Hayley adds: “Slow cookers are a great way to cook pork shoulder – pop it in on a low setting before you leave for work and it’ll be ready when everyone gets home.
“The meat will be lovely and tender – it falls off the bone and then you can shred it, add barbecue sauce and serve on tortillas with salad.
“I love sharing my knowledge with customers and am very proud that all our Scotch red meat comes from trusted farms, so we know it’s been raised to some of the highest possible welfare standards.
