China Mobile and Nokia ‘Innovate GenAI for Autonomous Network Operations’ project won the 2024 ‘TM Forum Excellence in AI Innovation’ award.
China Mobile, the world’s largest communication service operator, is committed to building a high-end autonomous network and shifting traditional operations to digital and intelligent processes. Since 2023, China Mobile’s Network Business Unit, together with Guangdong, Fujian, and Beijing, has been conducting ‘AI+ network’ innovation pilots. These efforts have led to the creation of generative AI solutions that enhance network operations and efficiency through continuous design, verification, and optimization. The solution follows a “1+2+3” framework: establishing an open and decoupled network language model framework, creating both centralized and private knowledge bases using LLM-RAG technology for better information retrieval, and focusing on three application areas: network O&M knowledge quizzes, O&M data self-service, and OSS code automatic generation, thereby improving network O&M efficiency and quality.
