He brings deep experience including working with TAFEs, governments and other institutions to deliver high quality tertiary education that meets community needs under a variety of settings and locations. Hamish is also experienced in business strategy from development through to implementation.

David is Nous’ Chief Data Scientist and is a leader in public sector analytics. David specialises in data and analytics that sit at the intersection of the tertiary education sector and the labour market.

Phil leads Cubane’s UniForum benchmarking programme in the UK and Europe. He brings 18 years of experience in business change consulting, strategic advice and research management; including deep expertise in supporting universities’ large-scale transformation and service improvement. Phil specialises in strategy development and execution, preparing robust business cases to aid good decision-making, and designing new customer-centred service delivery models.

The 2023 University COO report draws on the insights of over 80 professional service leaders from across the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, and Ireland. What research makes clear is that as institutions worldwide strive to transition back to on-campus operations and develop compelling hybrid experiences, there is a pressing need for administrative management, academic leaders, and students to unite and close the divide to in addressing the financial and strategic challenges confronting universities.

This roundtable event will explore the report’s key themes and provide an opportunity for robust discussion of how professional service leaders should respond.

Kirsty joined Heriot-Watt University in 2021, following seven years at The University of Glasgow, where she was Deputy Director, Planning and Performance. A higher education professional, with extensive experience of policy and strategy, and expert knowledge of key processes and data provisions, Kirsty led three Nous benchmarking exercises during her time at Glasgow.

Dr Sherwood is an obstetrician and gynaecologist with an interest in Clinical Governance, particularly with respect to surgical practice. He researched and published on the Ageing Surgeon during Sabbatical Leave in 2018. A former President of RANZCOG, he is currently the Acting Clinical Services Director at Western Health, Melbourne.

Peter has extensive leadership and consulting experience across the public, private and voluntary sectors at executive and board level. He brings a breadth of perspective, challenge and insight that he deploys effectively in consulting assignments.

Sheryl has been a midwife for over 30 years. She has worked in a variety of settings from birth centre, delivery suite, to homebirth – from private to public. She has supported over 2000 families. She teaches midwifery at university. She has an upbeat, fun way of working with families and is passionate about helping to instil the confidence you will need to navigate the system.

Antonia is an experienced leader and strategist specialising in not-for-profit organisations, having developed and delivered successful growth, change and people programmes for international non-government organisations and UK charities. She brings strong stakeholder engagement abilities and highly effective project management skills. Antonia’s people focus and analytical problem-solving capabilities make her adept at identifying and delivering strategic change initiatives for clients.
