For the first time, the entire TransAmerica Trail—5,900-plus miles of off-road adventure—is now available on Street View. Brought to you by Ford capability and Google Maps technology.
Trail
For the first time ever, see the whole route in 360-degree detail, and discover dozens of adventures along the way
Ford assembled a crew of adventure pros to experience the TransAmerica Trail. These four joined the convoy at key locations in Utah and Colorado and found the route delivers plenty of action—behind the wheel and on the ground.

OPERATION STREET VIEW
Mapping a route as rugged as the TransAmerica Trail took some cutting edge technology—and an all-new Google Street View camera.
The Google Street View team has a simple yet ambitious mission: create imagery that helps you discover the world. So it’s no surprise the team joined forces with Ford to embark on the TransAmerica Trail project. The new Street View camera, an ultra-portable system rigged to a Bronco Badlands, is especially suited to capture 360-degree imagery in remote, under-mapped areas—exactly what was needed for this journey. Result? The new TransAmerica Trail footage will help overlanders get better prepared to take on the route themselves.
Capable enough for off-road adventures, comfortable enough for long travel days, and roomy enough for the whole family, the Expedition is an ultimate road trip machine.
A pure adventure vehicle designed to handle rough, rocky, sandy and technical terrain with ease.
High-Performance Off-Road Stability Suspension (HOSS) system for responsive handling in extreme landscapes.

Ford’s commitment to making the outdoors accessible to off-road vehicles goes hand in hand with a commitment to protecting natural and cultural resources. Throughout the journey on the TransAmerica Trail, the team adhered to Tread Lightly! guidelines, ensuring the project followed responsible off-roading practices. Ford encourages all of its drivers—and all adventurers—to do the same.
Ever heard of the TransAmerica Trail? No surprise if you haven’t. The under-the-radar route stitches together backroads and dirt tracks, creating an epic journey from coast to coast. The route is a national treasure, but reliable info about it has been hard to find, and for years the TransAmerica Trail has remained an experts-only affair. Until now. Ford and Google Maps decided to flip the script, making it something every off-roader can plan, preview, and take on themselves.

Few people can pilot a bike—or a Bronco SUV—as deftly as Micayla Gatto. A professional freeride mountain biker, graphic designer, and multisport adventurer, Gatto grew up on British Columbia’s North Shore, where the mountains were never far. She fell in love with downhill mountain biking and spent nine years on the World Cup Circuit, notching several national championship wins. Today, she’s moved away from racing to focus on freeride mountain biking, overland adventures, and her art.

"Climbing isn’t something I do, and being at height on the via ferrata was something I was pretty nervous about. I had to learn how to trust the climbing equipment and get used to this feeling of not being in complete control. That was a little nerve-wracking, but I did it, and I was so stoked that I did."

Jan Zwiestra has always been a car person. As a teenager, he spent weekends tinkering with vintage cars and classic trucks. When he got older, he hitchhiked across Africa and eventually got a job leading overland tours around the continent. Overlanding was the perfect mash-up between his two loves: cars and long-distance travel. “I’m one of those people who’ll make the journey four times longer than it needs to be because I want to see everything along the way,” he says. Today, Zwiestra makes his living as a product designer. When he’s not working, he explores roads and trail as often as he can in his Ford Ranger truck, including this section of the TransAmerica Trail.
"Riding with someone like Micayla was such a thrilling experience. I wasn’t sure I’d be able to keep up with her, but I was super proud of what I was able to do out there. It was a real moment of finding more-than-I-knew capability for me."

A photographer, writer, and digital creator based in Nashville, Tennessee, Franklin is an overlanding evangelist. “I realized it combined my passion for adventure, photography, being on the road, climbing, cycling—all of it,” he says. Over time, Franklin has developed a reputation for both his photography and his skill with a vehicle, which is why he was a top pick for the Ford TransAmerica Trail team. Franklin didn’t hesitate. “The Moab-area drive is so expansive and goes through such a large variety of terrain,” he says. “It’s amazing in and out of the vehicle.”
"Climbing in Moab, there were many moments when I doubted myself and felt really discouraged. I’d never done any crack climbing before. But then I realized this is what it’s all about—trying something new and doing my best—and that helped me challenge myself and do something I thought I wasn’t going to be able to finish."

The first Ford vehicle that Andrew Muse lived in was an E-350 van. Then there was the F-550 he tried to reassemble from scratch, and finally the Bronco he now calls home. “Right out of high school, I moved west from Massachusetts to Park City to be a ski bum,” he says. “I was living in stairwells, garages, and people’s driveways to save money for experiences and to get into nature.” Overlanding became a way to connect his favorite adventures—and to keep saving money to do more of the things he loved. “The Bronco is just wildly capable,” he says. “I can go anywhere, and I’m never limited by the vehicle. It creates access to these off-the-beaten-path adventures, which is my absolute favorite thing to do.”
“Right around sunset, I flew the paramotor from the edge of the canyon. I'd actually never flown that site before, so I wasn't totally sure if it was going to work. But fortunately the wind was good and I was able to stick to my flight plan and safety plan, and it all went well. It was a magic moment—one of the coolest places I’d ever flown.”

Like any big adventure, the TransAmerica Trail has plenty of unpaved challenges: loose sand, sucking mud, and jagged rock, plus route variations that can make it longer or shorter. The adventurous route crosses 13 states over 5,900 miles with some of the best hiking, camping, biking, climbing and paddling in the country along the way. And now it’s easier than ever to discover it all for yourself.
To do that, Ford joined forces with Google Maps on an ambitious mission: capture the entire journey in Google Street View. The team tackled the rugged terrain with a three-vehicle convoy: a 2025 Ford Bronco® Badlands® equipped with Google’s new Street View camera and an Expedition® Tremor® and Ranger® Lariat® to carry the crew and tools that made it all possible.
