We also measure whether or not our technology and education really does what we think it should. We took a look at how our education for colon cancer screenings, mammograms, flu vaccines, smoking cessation counseling and STI screenings led more patients to get these needed health services.

Across 8,379 locations with the PatientPoint waiting room program, we saw a 3% increase in billable claims per health service vs. locations that didn't have the PatientPoint program. That's over 65,000 incremental services offered simply because the patients watched our education and spoke with their doctor about getting the service.

According to the American Cancer Society, when breast cancer is detected early, and is in the localized stage, the five-year survival rate is 99%. That’s why it’s so important for women between the ages of 40 and 44 to start screening with a mammogram every year. In 12 months, 944 more mammograms were performed in locations that had PatientPoint programs and education than those without. Like with colon cancer screenings, the more patients who get necessary screenings, the more lives that can be saved through early detection.

PatientPoint’s very own Cindy Oliver left in 2019 to pursue her own freelance design business. In March 2020, right as COVID-19 was hitting our country, Cindy was diagnosed with triple negative breast cancer. She finished active cancer treatment in November 2020 and was deemed to have no evidence of disease (NED)! All this fueled her passion for patient advocacy and education. She returned to PatientPoint in March 2021 as the Art Director of our exam room touchscreen program, bringing her creativity and insight as a patient to our programs. In her own words, “To be a part of PatientPoint, creating products that are connecting with patients which could impact their health journeys, their quality of life and their human existence is one of the most powerful contributions I’ve made in my career."

So how do we get more people to get vaccinated?

Educate patients in the waiting room with trusted education that speaks to the benefits of flu vaccines and prompts them to request a vaccine right when they’re in the doctor’s office.

We know that the more people who get vaccinated, the less of a burden our healthcare system faces. The CDC estimates that the 2021-2022 flu season resulted in 8 to 13 million symptomatic illnesses, and it has been estimated to cost the U.S. $11.2 billion in direct and indirect costs.

One of our provider partners who showcased PatientPoint flu education in their waiting room saw a 28% increase in flu vaccinations for the 2021-2022 flu season. And when looking across our entire test/control locations, we saw that locations with PatientPoint flu vaccine education gave a combined 6,780 more flu vaccines than locations without PatientPoint.
