SAFETY
I’m Deron Brown, President and COO of U.S. Operations - I have been a part of the PCL family for over 25 years. I began my career more than 30 years ago as a laborer and have worked in almost every role in our industry from the field to the office.
I believe having a strong foundation for
our safety program and giving our people opportunities for growth are key to our success. I am continuously inspired by the people of PCL.
PCL has a recognized, world-class safety program and due to your dedication and commitment to keep each other safe. Our program’s success relies on safety leadership training, safety initiatives, thorough follow-up to incidents and most important, your commitment to stopping unsafe work.
We are actively looking at ways to reduce near misses to avoid potential serious incidents or fatalities (SIFs). Your safety team is reviewing data to identify leading indicators and develop training and awareness programs that work for you. We want to hear about all safety infractions, no matter how small because that information helps us to reduce incidents in the future and take steps to make corrections before a SIF happens.
Look for more information during 2022 Construction Safety Week, May 2-6.

PURSUING NEW WORK
I want to express my deep gratitude for the teamwork, resilience and strength shown by you, our front-line craft personnel. The last two years have been the toughest years we have seen in the industry and your hard work has not gone unnoticed from everyone at PCL – we all appreciate your efforts every day. While you are working hard to build quality work, we are all working hard behind the scenes to enhance our safety program, secure more work and focus on your needs – our builders.
We are focusing our efforts in our offices to secure new work and break into new markets. We are pursuing $18 - $20 billion in opportunities across the country this year, with a focus on expanding into new markets through strategic hiring, increasing awareness of PCL, and building client relationships.
You are a critical part of our success in achieving this new work by building the PCL reputation through our quality work and industry relationships with clients, subcontractors and partners.
It is important to stay connected and feel supported whether working on a project site or in an office. The last two years have brought a new focus in mental well-being. Talk to your supervisor for resources. Hourly benefits and PCL Employee Assistance Program information can be found on the Hourly Employee Benefits website. SUPPORT
Life has its challenges, and sometimes you need a helping hand to make it through. Our employee assistance program (EAP) provides services that help you and your family manage problems before they impact your personal life, health or job performance.
Here are five key things to
remember about the EAP:
STRENGTHENING YOUR MENTAL HEALTH
FINANCIAL GUIDANCE AT YOUR FINGERTIPS
At some point, nearly everyone has too much stress, or gets too little sleep or has chronic pain that interferes with your quality of life. The new Computerized Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CPPT) program through ComPsych can help you with mental exercises that can reduce stress and help with emotions, pain, insomnia, anxiety and more. The program is free, and it can be done on your time on your device.
No matter what your goals are or your stage in life, WellthSourceSM through ComPsych can provide you the tools to create and maintain financial well-being. WellthSource is an interactive financial wellness site that helps you and your family members work on budgeting, saving, debt, retirement planning and more. Webinars, podcasts, quizzes and more, including access to financial planners, will help you live a healthier financial life!
Visit www.guidanceresources.com
(org web ID MY5848i and company name
PCL C) or call 877-533-2363.
PCL covers the cost of six in-person visits with an EAP therapist or counselor, so you pay nothing.
EAP is available for anxiety and depression, relationship challenges, substance abuse, family and parenting issues, financial stresses, anger management, and more.
PCL never knows who uses the EAP. This program is managed through a third-party vendor, ComPsych. Your confidentiality is absolute when you use the EAP.
All employees and their household members are eligible for no-cost services through the EAP, regardless of whether they participate
in other PCL benefit plans.
