Introduction to Laser scanning
Laser scanning captures real-world environments and objects using a laser to collect millions of data points on shapes and appearance. This process creates point-cloud models alongside high resolution photos which can be implemented in different phases of a construction project.
Laser scanning is an asset to your project from planning and execution stages through to the validation and exit stages. Laser scanning is fast, accurate, scalable, and differs compared to traditional measuring and progress reporting tools. One of the greatest advantages of Laser Scanning is that it saves clients and construction teams time and money by quickly capturing minutely accurate information.

testimonials
“PCL and their 3D Scanning technology provided exactly what we needed to complete a floor flatness survey within an Ottawa office building. The 3D scan was able to provide a high level of accuracy and lots of useful data to help us complete our review. We look forward to working with them again”.
Brent Weatherdon
M.ENG., P.ENG. Manager, Special Projects Department Cleland Jardine Engineering LTD.
“I had the opportunity to have the districts scanning services on 2 separate projects.
On one project we scanned the structural steel for clash detection and had discovered that there were discrepancies with as-built rooftop openings and where they were designed to be. Having this data accessible through the online viewing platform Cintoo, adjustments to M&E could take place by taking dimensions within the point cloud. This helped eliminate any schedule setbacks when it came to material and install.
Currently at U of Ottawa Health Sciences, we scan the day after a slab pour to note differences in slab elevations (Heat Maps) and will re-scan the same slabs in the future to note any deflection in the slab. These heat maps can be inserted into design models and provide a great visual in presentations to our consultants and clients."

"The services offered by the PCL Laser Scanning team was exactly what we needed to provide sound digital mapping information to the client and our own internal use to coordinate floor leveling, dimension verification, and interference drawings for an existing space. The 3D scan was quick and unobtrusive which made it easy to integrate into our workflow and schedule. We will be using this service again in the future"
