HOVER TO LEARN MORE
I am an immigrant to Canada. I remember other kids having things we couldn’t afford. As we grew up the children in my family were able to get a good education and then good jobs. We could afford the things we wanted. So, with the money we would have normally spent on holiday gifts, we bought the first farmyard of animals in my mother’s name. She had passed away and it was fitting to put it in her name because she was the first person to help someone else.”

What goats can do
Luisa gets her goats soon in Zambia! First, she learned new business skills and how to care for her animals so her farming venture can thrive for years. Next, she’ll get equipment to set up a pen and grazing area. Then, her goats will arrive, and so will the chance for a healthier, more prosperous future.
I am delighted to be part of the Gifts of Hope project because I will use the skills I will gain from here to raise money and take myself back to school and complete my education.”
A girlfriend and I decided last year that we would send a holiday donation to where it would be of greatest help. We are sponsors and we thought that sending a goat to a family in a country that would appreciate the benefits of an animal would be a great choice. We plan to continue this every holiday from now on. Thanks for presenting this idea of the perfect gift!”

Why girl power matters
what girl power can do
12-year-old Génesis recently represented her country Bolivia in a Taekwondo competition in Argentina – and won! Her smile tells us she’s pretty proud of that (as she should be). With help from the girl power Gift of Hope, Génesis knows her strength on and off the mat. She’s learning about her sexual and reproductive health and rights and becoming a peer leader, helping prevent issues like gender-based violence in her community.
I think that being a girl means being brave, dedicated, educated and responsible. I tell girls not to be afraid, not to pay attention to what boys or other people say and look forward, not backwards.”
We’ve been giving for twelve years, beginning when my grandchildren were aged three. One of my proudest moments was when my grandson discovered that in some places girls can’t go to school because they are girls. He was bewildered by it, and that year, he selected girls’ education. My granddaughter told me that it gives her joy to help.”
