Ninth Annual Bioplastics Week

PLASTICS’ Bioplastics Division will host the ninth-annual Bioplastics Week from October 7- 11, 2024. This is a social media campaign created to increase visibility for bioplastics by driving digital conversations via social media posts that feature materials such as infographics, reports, blog posts, and videos. Having multiple industry representatives post using the uniting hashtag, #BioplasticsWeek, allows for this messaging to reach a much larger audience than would be possible through individual posts.

Each year, the Bioplastics Division identifies 5 major themes to focus on throughout Bioplastics Week.

These themes can also act as a guideline for your posts as well! You can use them as a way to organize information you want to push out and feel free to go beyond these themes in your posts as well!

Monday

Advancing Biobased

Consumer and brand interest in biobased bioplastics is growing, driven by the environmental and sustainability benefits these materials offer. Bioplastic manufacturers are increasingly investing in biobased feedstocks to expand the production and application of bioplastics.

On Monday of Bioplastics Week 2024, we’ll explore the significant strides being made in the biobased plastics industry, focusing on the development of new feedstocks and polymers. We’ll also highlight how manufacturers are leading the charge to scale up supply, meeting the growing demand for biobased solutions.

Tuesday

Optimizing Circularity

Bioplastics have multiple different circular end of life options, depending on the polymer and application. Collection of bioplastics for recycling and composting is inconsistent around the US.

Tuesday’s content will center around challenges and opportunities for increasing the rate at which bioplastics reach their intended circular end of life option.

Wednesday

Bioplastics Breakthroughs

Though there are challenges presenting barriers to bioplastics, this industry has promising growth potential. There is a lot to be excited about within this space.

Tune in on Wednesday to learn more and to hear the announcement of the 2024 Innovation in Bioplastics Award Winner!

Thursday

Bioplastics' Sustainable Edge

Bioplastics have a plethora of sustainability attributes. From carbon emission reduction, to incentivizing plant growth, to aiding in food waste diversion, and even offering medical benefits in certain applications.
