Plume’s just getting started with 1 billion connected devices
Plume has surpassed another major milestone: more than 1 billion unique client devices have been managed on Plume-powered networks. We always believed that the truly personalized smart home—the intuitive home, if you will—is the next big play, and that belief has paid off, not just for us but also for our more than 200 partner Communications Service Providers (CSPs).
Our portfolio of smart services for homes and small businesses now reaches more than 30 million locations globally, driven by hardware-agnostic, cloud-based technology that continuously learns and optimizes its services for present and future customers.
“This 1 billion milestone is significant because it marked the arrival of the truly connected smart home. We are seeing 38% growth in connected devices per home on our network and believe this is just the tip of the iceberg as more consumers see the value and realize the promise of smarter WiFi and connected homes.”

To mark this achievement, we’re sharing some interesting insights based on our analysis of the number, type, and usage of devices over the 18 months ending May 2021.

the connected lifestyle of today’s consumers in numbers
It’s clear that the pandemic forced more people into single-family homes and that those homes invested in new devices as they spent more time at home.
The number of devices per US household increased by 38%. There are now on average 18 devices per household, up from 13 in October 2019.

In Japan, as residents sought out new ways to track their health, the wearables and smartwatches category boomed. Apple watches, in particular, were the most popular and fastest growing device in the category.
Many of these trends are not new—the pandemic merely accelerated their growth. These trends will continue to shape the Smart Home Services market, and our cloud-driven, open-source, software-defined solutions will enable our partner CSPs to stay ahead of them.
Next steps
Consumers are now ready for the devices they use, and the services that connect them all, to anticipate their needs and go beyond single-point solutions. That level of interoperability requires visibility and capability that crosses the entire home network. CSPs, device makers, and application makers are all rushing to fill that need. And Plume sits at the intersection of it all.
