A Martini for Every Mood
Classic
MODERN
WILDCARD
Dukes Martini
A famously dry and cold take that, by some accounts, is the definitive expression of the Martini.
Gibson
The onion-garnished classic, retooled to be a lighter, less astringent drink.
Turf Cocktail
An early variation that adds maraschino liqueur
and absinthe to the mix.
Tuxedo
Fino sherry stands in for vermouth in this
minerally take on the classic.
Alaska
A bold, herbaceous Martini with a splash of
yellow Chartreuse in place of vermouth.
Though the classic Martini recipe is a simple one—only two ingredients in its most austere form—it has inspired more debate than any other over the proper ingredients (gin or vodka?), ratio (wet or dry?) and garnish (olive or a twist?). More than a century’s worth of fine-tuning has resulted in a deep library of both classic and contemporary iterations that run the full gamut of both style and flavor. Here are some of our favorites.
Gin Blossom
The modern classic calls on apricot eau de vie
for a touch of fruit flavor.
MSG Martini
An ultra-umami Martini, thanks to housemade
MSG olive brine.
Sakura Martini
Salted cherry blossoms replace the tang that an olive
typically brings, while sake swaps in for vermouth.
Beefsteak Martini
A softer take on the Martini, thanks to a bed of shiso leaves
and a shiso-rubbed glass.
The Ultimate Freezer Martini
Our favorite pre-batched and frozen rendition.
Dirty Martini Highball
The classic made tall with tonic water, plus a dose
of manzanilla sherry.
One Sip Martini
A mini vodka Martini served in a veladora mezcal glass
with a blue cheese–stuffed olive.
Goldfish
A gilded take from Prohibition-era New York adds the
herbal liqueur Goldwasser to the mix.
Mezcal Martini
Orange bitters and a grapefruit twist tame the mezcal base in this take on a sweet Martini.
Allies Cocktail
A 50/50 Martini dressed up with savory-spicy Kümmel that's poised for a comeback.
