The Base: Pillows and Blankets
Your local park: it’s become your second home, your safe space, and where you’re able to flex those social muscles and connect with friends and family. One thing is for sure — we’ll never take a small strip of grass for granted ever again.
Now that we’re true pros at park entertaining, it’s time to take your picnic setup to the next level. From weather-proof pillows to upgraded speakers to portable serveware, this is what you need to wow your crew next time you head outside.
As you already know, the park can be unpredictable — if it rained the day before, or sprinklers went off, or even if a dog surreptitiously peed, the grass can often be damp. Rather than bring a blanket that’s going to get wet spots and soak through to your clothes, look for one that’s made with a water-resistant material. Extra points if it folds up neatly for optimal storage.
To make sure everyone is comfortable during your hang, bring some larger floor pillows and supportive back pillows that you don’t mind getting a little dirty. Jute is a great material to use, as is polyester canvas — especially if it has a weather-proof coating.
The Vibe: Tunes and Tech
Despite not being in your own backyard, you can still fire up some burgers or char a few vegetable skewers — all you need is a baby BBQ of sorts, i.e. a portable grill. These little cuties usually use charcoal to get going. Just make sure you dispose of the hot coals properly so you don’t contribute to any fires.
And because everyone can agree that a party lives and dies by the music, having a quality portable speaker ready, along with a killer playlist, is key.
First things first: making sure all your bevs and perishables stay ice cold for the duration of your hang. But that old cooler you have stuffed in the garage has probably seen better days. Upgrade to something that you don’t mind showing off at your gathering — and that’s multifunctional.
Next, you want to be sure that all your platters and plates are heavy enough that they won’t fly away in the summer breeze. Opt for wood or marble cheese or cutting boards to display any loose items like charcuterie, and grab melamine plates for eating. They are more sturdy than disposable plates and can be reused for more park hangs in the future.

Who doesn’t love a lawn game?! Try something interactive with an easy setup; think: cornhole, spikeball, or kubb. You could even go the classic route of croquet if you have enough room.
Of course, there will be those in your party who prefer just to lounge rather than work up a sweat playing a game. For them, bring along a pretty umbrella, a misting fan, and some refreshing AHA flavored sparkling water.

Beyond regular shampooing, we don’t pay nearly enough attention to our hair-care routines. But if you’ve ever treated yourself to a pricey
salon appointment, you know that a little massage and scalp scrubbing can go a long way in chilling you out and making you feel pampered.
The good news is you don’t have to go to an actual salon to get the first-class treatment — you can totally do it yourself as many times a week as you like for a fraction of the price, no tip necessary.

This Southern-style dinner is an interactive experience that your guests are guaranteed to get a kick out of. Customize the ingredients to your liking — shrimp, crawfish, clams, and lobster all work — then simmer the seafood in a large pot with plenty of spices, potatoes, sausage, and corn. No plates or utensils are needed here — just serve the food directly on a newspaper-lined table. Arm your guests with plenty of napkins and bibs, then dig in.
