Paloma-Inspired Spritz
There’s no better way to welcome the hot summer sun than with an ice-cold drink in hand. But sometimes you want the fun of a summer cocktail, without the day-after headache. So, we rounded up four delicious mocktail recipes that are a surefire way to help you beat the heat. From bitter to sour, smoky to sweet, there’s a drink for every mood. So whether you’re looking for something to sip poolside or in need of a treat after work, keep reading to discover our must-have summer mocktails.
If a margarita is your go-to drink to pair with chips and guac, then let us introduce you to its extremely drinkable cousin: the Paloma. This spritz draws inspiration from the classic Mexican cocktail, but incorporates an unexpected, yet welcoming, orange twist.
Fill a tall glass with ice. Pour in freshly squeezed grapefruit and lime juice. Add AHA Orange + Grapefruit sparkling water for a fizzy finish, and garnish with a grapefruit wedge. If you want to turn this mocktail into a cocktail, consider adding mezcal for a smoky twist that naturally complements the lime and grapefruit flavors.
Doogh
Yogurt may not come to mind when thinking of a cooling summer drink, but doogh — a Persian classic — is light, fizzy, and super refreshing. Similar to the Indian lassi, doogh is a yogurt-based beverage, but with a bubbly, salty, and sour finish. While doogh may be difficult to come across outside of Iran, you can mimic all the flavor elements at home with some fridge and pantry staples.
Puree plain yogurt with dried mint and a dash of salt in a blender. Add in club soda, and mix well until combined. Pour the doogh into a glass filled with lots of ice, and top with fresh mint leaves.
Is there anything more satisfying than a slice of cold, juicy watermelon after a day under the sun? We don’t think so. This watermelon mint mocktail channels all the thirst-quenching elements of our favorite summer snack, in drink form.
Start by placing a handful of mint leaves in the bottom of a glass. Gently press with a muddler to release the herb’s natural aromas (if you don’t have a muddler, chop up the mint leaves instead). Add ice and watermelon juice into the same glass. We suggest blending up fresh slices and pouring it through a fine-mesh strainer, but if you don’t have the time, store-bought juice works just fine. Squeeze in some lime juice, and garnish with a mint leaf. If you want to make it boozy, go for a mojito-esque vibe with a splash of white rum.

It seems like an ice-cold glass of sweet tea is synonymous with a hot summer day. This riff on the quintessential southern beverage swaps out plain sugar for the natural sweetness of pomegranate concentrate. Plus, it has a stunning color payoff.
Steep the tea of your choice (we prefer black tea) in hot water for five minutes. Then refrigerate it for a few hours, but ideally, overnight. When you’re ready to serve, pour the tea into a glass filled with ice, add pomegranate concentrate, and stir. If you can’t find the concentrate at your local grocery store, a splash of pomegranate juice works here, too. Garnish with whatever fresh berries you have on hand — blueberries, pomegranate seeds, and raspberries all work — a squeeze of lemon juice, and enjoy.
