Pelo Malo
Spanish, “Bad Hair”
A colonized term and a lie many Latinas have been taught to believe, used to demean Afro-textured and curly hair. But let’s be clear: there’s no such thing as “pelo malo.”
Pelo Bueno
Spanish, “Good Hair”
Also a lie, traditionally used to describe straight or wavy hair. Today, Latinas are reclaiming “pelo bueno” to mean beautiful, healthy hair — regardless of texture.
