Don’t forget the tools
Let’s also not forget the importance of hydration when it comes to cottonmouth. Have plenty of water and other refreshments available, like ginger juice and coffee beans that can double as palette cleansers for guests who want to dab(ble) in different cannabis offerings. (Coffee beans, when smelled, can act as a nasal palette cleanser.) If you want a bit more flavor, make sure to serve mocktails, as alcohol can negatively interact with cannabis and jeopardize your guests’ high.
Nothing can ruin your high experience like not having the right kind of treats for the inevitable munchies. Salty and sweet snacks are both equally essential to a successful smoke sesh. Always have finger snacks like chips with guac, popcorn, and candy available, but be open for inspiration to strike and support your local vendors with some delivery.
Prepare for munchies
Keep everyone hydrated
With food and beverages covered, it's time to move on to the entertainment. Throw on a visually stimulating documentary about the planet, laugh along to your favorite comedy movies, or use your creative juices for game night. Make sure to have a variety of creative outlets for your guests, like karaoke, adult coloring books, and of course anything with music. Some other engaging ideas could be taste-testing new snacks, or a cookie-decorating contest where guests design their own baked goods.
Just like if you were going out for drinks, making sure everyone is being responsible and has a safe way home is paramount when cannabis is involved, too. And, that responsibility is yours if you opt to host. One option is to turn the evening into an adult slumber party, so guests don’t have to be worried about making arrangements. Otherwise, you’ll need a designated driver, or a rideshare to take people home safely. Then, follow their ride via the rideshare app, or shoot them a text to make sure they got home okay.
Plan for entertainment, too
CONSIDER YOUR BUDGET
Labels are key
When it comes to displaying your party favors, make sure to appropriately tag each product. Identify the strain, its effects, flavors, and strength so your guests know what they’re getting into. Do Drops are an approachable new edible that offer a low dosage that is suitable for almost any cannabis level, as they are only 2.5mg of THC, which is the recommended beginner dosage for microdosing, according to experts at Do Drops. Plus, they have seven flavors (including two chocolates) and are easy to serve.
When it comes to hosting any party, setting a budget is paramount. The great thing about a
‘Cali sober’ themed event is that it is relatively cheap compared to a cocktail party, as a package of edibles, like Do Drops, will run you about $20 (depending on the state you live in) and has enough for at least 10 people to all have a dose. That said, keep in mind your group’s tastes: if not all users will want to partake, having other options available, especially CBD-only varieties, will make sure there is something for everyone — including those who want a THC-free experience.

With the world reopening, expect bars to be packed, clubs to be overrun, and everything else, (drinks included) to be overpriced. So why not entertain in smaller, intimate groups, to welcome your “long time, no see” (no, really!) friends with open arms? And, instead of reaching for the usual cocktails, hosting a “Cali sober” party (meaning with cannabis, rather than booze) is perfect for a small group. Here’s how you can skip the beverages and (responsibly!) pass the bud instead this year.
When serving your cannabis creations, make sure they’re paired with the right accessories. For pre-packaged edibles, you won’t need much, but if you’re bringing out pre-rolled joints or flower, make sure you have papers, grinders, and an ashtray. Some folks may not be ready to share a piece or joint with a crowd, so keeping cleaning supplies around for glassware is also recommended.
