Our Summer Grilling Must-Haves
“I'm not a big fan of hot dogs, but I love bratwursts. Not only do sausages offer so much more flavor than hotdogs, but they're also nostalgic for me: My dad grew up eating traditional German food, so grilling bratwurst was a common summer dinner for me growing up.
While I'm waiting for the grill to heat up, I like to have some other snacks to munch on. Clancy’s Original Pretzel Slims and Park Street Deli Dill Dip go well with the Bavarian cookout vibe alongside the grilled sausages.

For beverages, you can’t go wrong with PurAqua Belle Vie Sparkling Flavored Water and Nature's Nectar Sparkling French Lemonade. Perfect for kids and adults alike, their refreshing flavors remind me of summertime. And finally, what’s a barbecue without ice cream? Rather than bringing an entire gallon (or two), a few packs of ice cream sandwiches are much more portable. These Sundae Shoppe Ice Cream Cookie Sandwich Minis are so delicious, you won’t be able to stop at just one!”

Classics With a Twist

Once the grill is ready, I'll toss on a few different types of sausages. Cheddar Brats are a nice twist on the traditional version, and almost everyone loves a Sweet Italian Sausage. I also love grilling a few ears of corn: A slight char complements the corn's natural sweetness, creating the ideal summer side. Just before the sausages are ready, I'll split open a few Specially Selected Brioche Hot Dog Buns and lay them on the grill for a light toasting. Served alongside big slices of watermelon and an ice-cold Wernesgrüner Pilsner, it's my ideal German-inspired summer cookout spread.”
It’s that time of year when we’re dusting off the grill and gathering everyone’s schedules to plan a much-needed cookout. If you’re looking for the right place to start your grocery shopping, your first stop should be ALDI. It has all of your summertime grilling needs all in one place — and for affordable prices. To give you a few ideas on what you should grab on your next shopping trip, we tapped our in-house experts to share which ALDI exclusives they’re picking up when prepping for their barbecues with friends and family.

“When I’m hosting, I like to take tried-and-true dishes I know will be a hit and step them up a bit, so they’re new and exciting. For an appetizer, there’s nothing wrong with setting out chips and dip. There’s no prep or cooking needed, and it saves you time and energy to focus on getting the grill ready. This Park Street Deli Mango Pico De Gallo with jalapenos is both refreshing and spicy, perfect for a hot day, and these salty, crunchy Simply Nature Organic Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips will go with any drink you serve.
For the main event, go for something you know people will love. After all, what’s better than Grass-Fed Beef Patties hot off the grill? When I was a kid, I was introduced to the Juicy Lucy — a Minnesotan invention where the cheese is stuffed inside the patty, resulting in a molten, gooey center — and became obsessed.

Baby Lee couldn’t believe how ingenious it was to serve cheese inside the burger! I like to serve a few of them in addition to classic cheeseburgers. It’s a familiar, comforting dish with a fun surprise inside. Just tear your patty in half, pop a Happy Farms Cheese slice inside, fold it up like a ravioli, and grill it like you normally would.
For dessert, I keep things simple. I haven’t met a single person who doesn’t love a Sundae Shoppe Strawberry Frozen Fruit Bar. It’s such a step up from the traditional popsicle, with more texture and natural flavor. When it’s a scorching hot day, there’s nothing better.”
“As a pescatarian, I always make sure to bring some type of seafood to any barbecue I attend. Salmon is my go-to because it’s so versatile, as well as rich in vitamins and omega-3 fatty acids. These filets from ALDI are especially convenient and I love that they’re fresh, rather than frozen. For me, freshness is key when cooking salmon.
When it comes to sides, I try to switch it up for healthier options and contribute some type of fruit or vegetable. I find baby carrots and hummus are always a winner; they’re super easy to transport and snack on while standing around chatting. This Park Street Deli Hummus Quartet is perfect for a crowd; it allows everyone to choose their favorite flavor. But when I need a little treat, I bring Clancy's White Cheddar Cheese Popcorn to the party for its cheesy goodness.
