The Lincoln
One of Melbourne’s best gastropubs, The Lincoln is owned and operated by Chinese-Liverpuddlian expat Iain Ling, who previously managed MoVida, the city’s most influential Spanish restaurant. The result is excellent food, better wine and highly professional service in a venue that still manages to feel like a neighborhood watering hole. Tradesmen in mud-caked boots down pints of lager while professors from the nearby university enjoy French wines and snack on crabmeat-topped crumpets. If Ling is around, expect to be fired at with a confetti gun or talked into taking shots of tequila with the city’s top hospitality professionals, who frequent the bar.
