Craftroom
For locals, the bowels of the 1970-built Osaka Ekimae buildings bring to mind rough-and-tumble eateries, smoky city-roast cafés, tarot stalls and adult video stores. In 2020, that’s where 13-year Bar K veteran Ryu Fujii chose to open the antithesis: a refined whisky and cocktail bar set against a backdrop of crystalline jazz delivered via a Yarland tube amp. Fujii’s menu encompasses classics and house specials that change seasonally, but his Naga-iki Parisian, a Japanese take on the Boulevardier, is always too good to cut. Craftroom is tiny—six counter seats and one table—but if it’s full, grab an upturned sake crate in a neighboring joint or walk 400 meters to Bar K.
