Empowering students for a better world
Trafalgar School inspires its students to dream of a better world and then empowers them to create it. An intentionally smaller high school, Trafalgar provides a closely-knit community that fosters the development of individual excellence, leadership, kindness, and global mindedness.
Trafalgar’s vision is rooted in four core principles that guide day-to-day life at the school:
be open
Be Collaborative
Be Curious
Be Compassionate
Trafalgar has always prided itself on encouraging young women
to be open to new ideas, challenges, and experiences. The school’s downtown location lends itself to outings to nearby cultural centres and universities, as well as nearby Mont Royal. Faculty encourage students to develop the sense of self and resilience they need in our modern world, and daily practices draw on this developmental mindset.
Trafalgar encourages collaborative practices at every turn. Students are taught to listen deeply and mindfully, to understand a diversity of perspectives, and to express themselves by developing their own voice. Trafalgar leaders, faculty, and staff model the practice of interacting and collaborating with local partners such as McGill University, as well as international organizations.
Self-compassion, empathy, and concern for the well-being of others are encouraged daily at Trafalgar. A school-wide wellness orientation encourages students to be more aware and live in the present, taking care of both their minds and bodies. Traf students learn the importance of building a kinder, more sustainable world.
Trafalgar wants its students to be life-long learners, and this goal starts with curiosity. Through guided exploration and self-directed research, students learn to ask key questions rather than just find the right answers.
