Index-linked variable universal life products are complex insurance and investment vehicles and are long-term investments designed to provide death benefit protection with cash value accumulation potential. There is risk of loss of principal if negative index returns exceed the selected protection level. Gains or losses are assessed at the end of each term. Early withdrawals may result in a loss in addition to applicable surrender charges. Unpaid loans and withdrawals reduce cash values and death benefits; may reduce the duration of the guarantee against lapse, which may lapse the policy; and may have tax consequences. FlexGuard Life also allows clients to choose the length of guarantee against lapse, which can be extended for an additional cost, providing them with guaranteed coverage as long as sufficient premiums are paid and other guaranteed requirements are met. FlexGuard’s No-Lapse Guarantee ensures that, for a certain time period, their policy will stay in effect no matter what happens to their policy’s values.

1 Year S&P 500 Step Rate Plus with 10% Buffer Index Strategy
In this example, if the index return is positive, then the interest rate credited is the greater of 8% or 70% of the index return.
When the index return is negative, the loss that impacts the index strategy value is always the negative index return less 10%.
Losses after the initial 10% will negatively impact the index segment value.

In this example, if the index return is positive, then the interest credited is point-to-point to the index return rate until it is capped at the cap rate.

FlexGuard Life allows clients to access the accumulated cash value in their policy, to use for anything they choose, like supplementing retirement, through loans that are charged interest, or through withdrawals.
It also offers living benefits that include accelerating the death benefit—accessing the money that would otherwise go to their beneficiaries when they pass away—although it will reduce the amount they ultimately receive. These are:
BenefitAccess Rider
Lets clients accelerate the death benefit if they become terminally ill or, in some states, if they will be confined to a nursing home for 6 months or more.

** The BenefitAccess Rider is an optional rider that accelerates the life insurance death benefit when the insured is terminally ill or is chronically ill as defined in the rider. It is not Long-Term Care (LTC) insurance. Benefits received under the rider will reduce and may deplete the death benefit. Electing the BenefitAccess Rider results in an additional charge and underwriting requirements. Some benefit payments may be subject to a fee. Other terms and conditions apply and can vary by state. Clients should consult their tax and legal advisors.
History of S&P 500 Index Returns
Living Needs BenefitSM
This chart illustrates the S&P 500 index returns from 1994 to 2023. In 22 of those 30 years, the return was positive; in 8 it was negative. With the protection of a 10% buffer, the account value would have experienced no loss in four of those eight years. So, on a rolling monthly basis, a 10% buffer would have protected the account value from loss 87% of the time.
Past performance is not indicative of future performance results.
* Outstanding loans and withdrawals will reduce policy cash values and the death benefit and may have tax consequences. Unpaid loans and withdrawals may reduce the duration of the guarantee against lapse, which may lapse the policy, and may have tax consequences.
