Helping people avoid future hospitalizations
In Japan, IQVIA is working with healthcare providers, local governments, and employee payers to assess people’s risk of disease and help them make behavior changes preventatively. Using disease risk models based on payer claims data, it’s possible to predict future health status and the risk of hospitalization over the next five years. This will improve people’s health status and reduce the risk and cost of future hospitalizations.

Understanding patients’ clinical trial preferences
IQVIA is shedding light on clinical trial preferences in China to guide the biopharmaceutical industry. Two IQVIA surveys indicated the majority of patients are open to participating in decentralized or hybrid virtual trials, meaning they can participate in some or all of the trial from home. They are also open to using wearables, embracing electronic data collection, and adopting other digital tools as part of that experience.
Leveraging data to locate life-saving medicines
During COVID-19 shut downs in Shanghai, China, IQVIA staff began leveraging our hospital and pharmacy supply data to help people in quarantine locate essential medications to manage chronic and life-threatening conditions. This provided peace of mind during a very difficult time.

Helping to eliminate tuberculosis
Tuberculosis is a challenging disease to manage in India, causing two deaths every three minutes. But these deaths can be prevented. That’s why IQVIA is working with USAID and Central Tuberculosis Division to enable the National India Tuberculosis (TB) Elimination Program. As part of this effort, we are collecting data on the sales of anti-TB drugs in the private sector in order to monitor and evaluate progress.
Supporting women with chronic kidney disease
Chronic kidney disease remains a challenge in India that affects many women. When left untreated, it can lead to premature death. Costs, travel time, and child care are a few of the barriers that prevent many women with chronic kidney disease from receiving care. That’s why IQVIA is partnering with the Bangalore Kidney Foundation’s program to support 40 women from low-income backgrounds in Karnataka, India, with chronic kidney disease. The program takes a holistic approach to treating participants, providing Total Care Dialysis, a combination of dialysis and comprehensive nutrition services to help women achieve optimal results.
Funding cleft care for children
In India, one in every 800 to 1,000 babies (or about three babies every hour) is born with a cleft, which is a common birth defect caused when a part of the lip or the roof of the mouth doesn’t fuse together. Children with a cleft are at risk for many problems, including malnutrition, serious dental issues, deafness, and trouble communicating. Through the non-profit organization Akila Bharatha Mahila Seva Samaja (ABMSS), IQVIA is financing the cost of cleft surgery and comprehensive cleft care for hundreds of children to give them hope for a better future.
Reducing maternal and newborn deaths
Infant mortality is responsible for more than 26 deaths for every 1,000 live births in India. That’s why IQVIA is working with local health systems in Andhra Pradesh, India, to improve outcomes. For instance, we are mentoring clinicians, helping to standardize birthing and labor rooms, and offering advice on how to better manage clinical protocols to reduce maternal and newborn complications and deaths. This is giving more mothers, children, and families a healthier start.
Providing job training for youth
IQVIA is working with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) in India on the “Udaan Scheme.” This is a work training program for young people that provides them with valuable career skills. This will prepare them to get a job in the healthcare workforce. Since this effort began more than a decade ago, more than 38,000 candidates have completed the training program and close to 25,000 of them have been offered jobs.
UNITED KINGDOM
Preventing stroke in A-fib patients
People with Atrial fibrillation (A-fib) are five times more likely to have a stroke than those without this condition. IQVIA is partnering with a UK healthcare provider to apply risk modeling and pharmacist engagement in order to identify people with A-fib at increased risk of stroke. Clinicians are using this information to adjust treatment, decreasing strokes by 22 percent in this high-risk group.
Using AI to avoid hospitalizations for respiratory problems
IQVIA is working with Cambridge Respiratory Innovations in the UK to create a home monitoring device that uses AI to predict respiratory exacerbation events before they occur. By identifying problems as early as two days in advance, people can adjust their treatments and reduce the risk of hospitalization. This approach helps patients better manage their condition and is expected to save the UK’s National health Service more than £94 million (or $120 million) annually by avoided hospital stays.

Conducting Sports League injury surveillance
National Football League (NFL) players in the US are at high risk of experiencing injury—especially during preseason practices and games. IQVIA conducts real-world research with the NFL to identify how players can minimize or avoid the risks of getting injured.
Connecting patients with local allergists
IQVIA is collaborating with Allergy Plus to integrate an allergist finder in their mobile app. In a period of less than six months, more than 2 million people used this function to find an allergist in their area. The app also provides local pollen count information and allergy basics, so people can better manage their health and symptoms.
Combatting antibiotic misuse
Antibiotic misuse is a serious problem today in the U.S. and around the world. When antibiotics are over-prescribed, it can increase the risk of them becoming less effective to combat future illnesses. IQVIA is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control & Prevention to better understand prescribing practices and to educate clinicians about the risks of misuse to help reduce antibiotic resistance.
Identifying adult type 1 diabetes
Adults with type 1 diabetes are often misdiagnosed with type 2 diabetes. IQVIA is working with JDRF to address the problem. Through the use of predictive AI models, along with the implementation of clinician training programs, we are increasing awareness of the frequency and impact of misdiagnosis and also helping physicians recognize the signs of adults with type 1 diabetes to ultimately improve proper diagnosis rates.
Improving quality of life for people with blindness
IQVIA is working with the Foundation Fighting Blindness to offer new hope to people with degenerative retinal diseases that cause loss of sight. One way we are accomplishing this goal is by helping the foundation to expand their existing patient registry to advance ground-breaking research. This will accelerate understanding of the causes of blindness and lead to more effective prevention, treatment, and vision restoration approaches, ultimately improving quality of life for many patients.
Increasing early diagnosis of Alzheimer’s Disease
Working with an electronic medical records (EMR) company, IQVIA developed a predictive tool based on real-world data that integrates into the EMR to identify people with Alzheimer’s Disease at the earliest stage and predict how they will respond to medication. This is helping clinicians develop more effective treatment plans to slow people’s disease progression and improve their prognosis.

Informing safer antidepressant prescribing practices
IQVIA is helping to address patient safety issues associated with the use of SSRI and SNRI antidepressants by collaborating with Health Canada, a department of the Government of Canada responsible for national health policy. By monitoring physician prescribing of these antidepressants following a drug advisory or drug recall, Health Canada can provide clinicians with improved education about potential dangers, side effects, and overall risk of prescribing these drugs to some populations.
Preventing antibiotic resistance in children
Inappropriate antibiotic use for respiratory tract infections is linked to antimicrobial resistance in children. IQVIA recently supported a community-wide education program in Canada to teach the medical community and residents about the need to avoid overusing antibiotics. This is reducing over-prescribing practices so that when children do need an antibiotic in the future, the drug is more likely to be effective.

Addressing mental health and opioid addiction
IQVIA brings together thought leaders from the provinces of Quebec and Ontario to address mental health and opioid addiction in Canada through the creation of the IQVIA Advisory Boards for Advancement in Health. The Advisory Boards run independent studies designed to foster open discussions and enable improved access and use of health data. The goal is to find new ways to better understand—and treat—some of the most complex health issues.

Helping refugees find safe havens
IQVIA is providing dedicated support to employees and those with family and close friends impacted by the conflict in Ukraine by helping them find safe havens in neighboring countries. We created a daily “Send Word Now” message system for employees in need of help, and also advanced paychecks and bonuses as needed. In addition, we provided financial assistance to the Red Cross and the U.N. Refugee Agency to further help improve conditions.

Improving lives in rural communities
IQVIA convened its first special Health Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, bringing together more than 200 people from government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, healthcare organizations, and international foundations representing 28 African countries. This forum allowed participants to share insights and explore a common vision on how to work together to leverage data, technology, and research to help more residents in rural African access the latest medical care and innovations.
Providing a snapshot of the pandemic
During the COVID-19 pandemic, IQVIA played a crucial role in the UK’s COVID-19 Infection Survey (CIS) by collecting key health data that provided vital insights to inform the nation’s response strategy. The survey offers a snapshot of the number of people impacted, viral load, variants, the impact of vaccination and differences in ethnic communities. This effort also created jobs for 6,000 people hired to collect the survey data. Half of the survey workers had been unemployed due to pandemic shutdowns, so this effort was an important source of support and career training.

Using data to guide patient care decisions
In the UK, the NHS collects a wealth of data that are shedding new light on diseases and can inform patient-level care decisions. IQVIA is working with the UK government to maximize the use of that data in the most impactful way. For instance, using data to understand delays in cancer care during COVID-19 prompted the government to mobilize a Cancer Recovery Plan post-pandemic.
Improving options and outcomes for people with prostate cancer
IQVIA and the Prostate Cancer Research (PCR) organization are collaborating to enhance the UK life sciences sector’s understanding of prostate cancer through the use of clinical and patient-reported data. This will enable accelerated medicines development and improved health outcomes for people with prostate cancer. IQVIA and PCR are also exploring new opportunities to bring the patient experience into clinical research to support patient directed end-to-end drug delivery.

As many as 50 million people in the world are living with Alzheimer’s disease today, which is why IQVIA is working with the Davos Alzheimer’s Collaborative on a global effort to further research and clinical trials to find new ways to prevent and treat this debilitating condition. Fighting the opioid epidemic
Deaths from opioid overdose have been a serious concern in the U.S. in recent years. In fact, more than 80,000 people died from opioid-related causes in 2021. IQVIA is partnering with the American Medical Association’s Task Force to Reduce Opioid Abuse to help reverse the opioid epidemic. Our data and analyses illustrate the effects of legislation regarding opioids and encourage adoption of effective policies to address this widespread problem.

The center develops and manages a network of real-world healthcare data sources across the EU. IQVIA’s Scotland-based laboratory is implementing sustainable practices to reduce its impact on the environment. As a result of our efforts, we recently received the global My Green Lab Certification. IQVIA’s laboratory in Livingston, Scotland, is utilizing 100% certified renewable electricity. This facility also provides electric vehicle charging stations. Leveraging AI to identify rare diseases
Idiopathic pulmonary arterial hypertension (iPAH) is a very rare disease impacting about 6,500 people in the UK and it is often fatal. That’s why IQVIA is working with clinicians and researchers in Sheffield Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust to use an AI algorithm to identify patients at risk of developing iPAH. The goal is for this to be a low-cost screening method at the population level, ultimately facilitating earlier diagnosis and improving patient outcomes for iPAH in the UK.

Finding new clinical trial sites is the focus of IQVIA’s efforts around the world to help advance new therapies and make them more accessible. For instance, in Brazil, we are building relationships with new investigators who can help us work on different therapeutic areas, especially in rare and pediatric diseases to increase treatment possibilities.
Using AI models to improve outcomes
IQVIA’s artificial intelligence (AI) models are allowing a major health care provider to standardize information capture from a systemwide database of close to 1 million echocardiogram reports. This enables identification of patients with early-stage valvular heart disease, providing an important opportunity to provide early disease management. This can significantly improve patient outcomes and reduce costs.
Improving the patient experience in clinical trials
To reduce patient burden in clinical trials, IQVIA’s lab business, Q2 Solutions, developed the first self-collection safety lab panel for U.S. clinical trial participants by a leading global clinical trial laboratory. The offering, developed in conjunction with a partner enables participants in clinical trials to provide a blood specimen for liver panel lab testing in the comfort of their own home, without the need to visit an investigator site or have a healthcare professional visit them.

Teaching children to recognize stroke signs in adults
IQVIA Russia educated employees’ children on how to recognize stroke symptoms in their grandparents and taught them how to respond quickly for a better outcome. IQVIA also encouraged young participants to share what they learn with their family members, so everyone will know what to do in an emergency. Educational materials were provided by Boeringer Ingelheim through its Angels Initiative, which is a collaboration with IQVIA that seeks to improve stroke care.

Assisting Ukrainian refugees
IQVIA employees in Poland are helping Ukrainian refugees and their families get across the border to safety and re-establish their lives. We are providing housing, supplies, and financial assistance for those in need to help them get a fresh start. In addition, we are assisting a dozen patients that were participating in clinical trials in Ukraine and are now trying to continue contributing to the research through health centers in Poland.
Finding medication solutions for refugees
Many people who fled Ukraine during the conflict were forced to leave behind prescription medicines. IQVIA is addressing this serious issue by helping with the development of a website that converts the name of medicines that are typically prescribed in Ukraine to equivalent options available in other European countries. This service is essential to helping health care professions, charities, governments, and pharmacists to find medication solutions for Ukrainian refugees.

In Italy, our employees all across the country recently took part in a Plogging Day — a new initiative that combines jogging and picking up trash — with Plastic Free, an association that raises awareness about the dangers of plastic pollution. IQVIA volunteers collected more than 485 lbs (220kg) of waste throughout the day.
Reducing energy consumption
IQVIA is taking steps to reduce carbon emissions by investing in renewables. For example, we installed rooftop solar panels in our Marlborough Tech Park in Massachusetts, U.S. We also provide electric car charging stations on site as part of our overall sustainability program.
