Mary is a Senior Relationship Manager & Team Head of Philanthropy for the Moldaver Lee Cohen Wealth Partners at Rockefeller Capital Management.
With over 25 years of experience as an executive in media, fundraising, philanthropy, and management, Mary draws on her diverse background with a genuine passion for helping clients pursue their goals. Her focus is on encouraging and managing client relationships with integrity, purpose, competency, and accessibility. Mary’s vast experience in fundraising and coalition-building has provided her with deep knowledge of the complex issues surrounding philanthropy and endowment that affect people of high-net-worth. Coordinating the group’s strategic relationships through her vast personal and business networks of executives, philanthropists, public servants, and media figures is where Mary is most at home. As the female voice in the group, she is cognizant of the unique issues facing female clients and couples while being mindful of the realities of home life, relationships, and transitions. To guide clients who desire to create a legacy is her deeply regarded honor.
Before Rockefeller, Stifel was home for over four years following the bank’s acquisition of the group’s former home, Barclays Wealth and Investment Management. Before joining Barclays in 2013, Mary was a key member of the Moldaver Group at Morgan Stanley.
Corporate leadership
Before entering the investment industry, Mary spent more than 13 years as the Chief Operating Officer and Executive Director of The Guardian Angels; a volunteer-based organization made up of dedicated individuals who donate their time and energy to help protect communities around the world. Mary led the Angels’ evolution from well-known New York City grassroots street patrols to a respected organization on a global stage focused on community safety. Through her efforts, The Guardian Angels won recognition from major political and governmental agencies, receiving the “Keys to the City” from New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, the Liberty Medal Award, and, most impressively, the President’s Service Award, presented in 1998 by President Clinton for the organization’s CyberAngels Internet safety program.
Media career
By 1996, Mary had distinguished herself as a leading executive in the corporate media arena. She managed advertising sales, client relations, and marketing programs for Capital Cities/WABC Radio and was awarded the company’s prestigious “Circle of Excellence” honor. She also held executive positions at CNN, WPAT, WPLJ, and WRKS. This alchemy of business and education expertise proved to be a powerful catalyst for Mary’s consistent growth in a wide array of fields.
Education
Mary studied liberal arts at Monmouth University before earning a Bachelor of Arts in Special Education of Multiple-Handicapped Children from William Paterson University. She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Media Management from Wharton, a Graduate Certificate in Media and Public Relations from the Sterling Institute, a Psi Chi Certificate of Recognition in psychology from Fordham University, and lectured at NYU.
For Mary, public service is a natural extension of her character. “There is no greater satisfaction in life than to help someone else. It’s a feeling that I wish everyone could experience.” ~Mary Paterson
Mary is married to David A. Paterson, the 55th Governor of New York.
