Set a realistic budget Many first-time collectors assume valuable, high-quality art is unaffordable and difficult to access. Fortunately, NFTs sell at a wide range of price points, and no matter the budget, you can begin building the collection of your dreams. 4. Figure out how to display your digital art There are many ways to enjoy NFTs—from physical prints to digital displays and beyond. Do you want to be able to display the work physically? If so, consider your space and how you prefer to appreciate art.

NFTs are now a valuable component of our fine art selection, which includes paintings, sculpture, photography, video, and more. We give collectors the opportunity to explore the world of NFTs on a global level in an open and secure environment. As we continue to serve our community and expand our web3 programming, we are always looking for innovative ways to offer additional value to Saatchi Art token holders.
1. Buy Crypto

Let us walk you through the 3 steps! To start, you will need ETH, the native cryptocurrency of the Ethereum blockchain. You can get ETH from an exchange. If your local currency is USD, GRB, EUR, AUD, or CAD then Coinbase is a good option; otherwise Binance will likely be the preferred exchange in your country. Let’s use Coinbase as an example. You can sign up online at coinbase.com or download the app. Create an account, verify your identity, and then connect a payment method (e.g. debit card, bank account, etc.) Once that is complete, you’ll be able to buy some Ethereum. You may be wondering, “How much should I buy?” Transaction fees vary widely; they’re based on the network usage at the time you are placing your transaction and could be about .02 ETH to mint one avatar. You will also pay a small transaction fee to transfer ETH from Coinbase to your custodial wallet, so err on the side of purchasing more ETH, not less.

3. Transfer Your ETH to a Wallet
You now have ETH stored in your Coinbase account, but in order to buy NFTs, you will also need your own wallet and to use Metamask—a browser extension—to connect that wallet to websites like Saatchi Art. Metamask has made it simple to install their browser extension and create your first wallet address, all in one process. To begin, go to metamask.io and follow the instructions. When you get to the step to reveal your secret recovery phrase, be sure to only write it down (no photos, or saving it to your computer or phone!) and to store it somewhere safe.
If you are new to crypto and NFTs, the wallet you create as part of the onboarding process with Metamask will suffice. If you are holding more than $1,000 USD in digital assets, we strongly urge you to consider purchasing a hardware wallet. Hardware wallet addresses can also be connected to Metamask. To learn more about hardware wallets, we recommend checking out this video series produced by Ledger, the leading hardware wallet provider.
Now you have your own wallet on Metamask that is empty, while the ETH you bought is sitting over on Coinbase. Let’s transfer it over so you can purchase some NFTs. To do so, open Metamask and click on your account name to copy and paste your wallet address to the clipboard.
Now go over to Coinbase and click “Send/Receive.” Be sure Ethereum is selected, and paste in your wallet address from Metamask in the “To:” field.
Choose the amount you want to transfer (possibly “send all”), and continue. Confirm everything is right, and you are ready to go. Once your transfer is complete, you’ll see the balance appear in your wallet on Metamask. You are now ready to “mint,” or purchase, your first NFT!
How do I get started with purchasing NFTs?

Please know that no one from Saatchi Art will ever ask you for your secret recovery phrase (or "seed phrase"). If someone ever asks you for this, that person is likely attempting something illegal.
You can trust that your purchase of an NFT from a reputable platform will be secure. The great thing about this technology is that you can confirm ownership of your digital asset on the blockchain.
What do I need to know as a buyer?
Before you can buy an NFT, you must take three simple steps: 1. Buy Crypto from Coinbase, or another cryptocurrency exchange provider. 2. Create a wallet. MetaMask is a popular choice, and their guide to getting started is available here. 3. Transfer your crypto to your wallet, which stores your keys for transactions.
1. Your NFT data is on a public blockchain. Compared to traditional art collecting, this means you don’t have to rely on one specific entity for a ledger of previous ownership, security, or provenance. 2. NFT artists get a percentage of each secondary sale in perpetuity, so you are supporting the creators you love, even when you don’t buy from them directly. 3. An NFT can function as a gateway to perks and utility of the project’s or creator’s choosing. This can include redeemable physical prints, discounts, and access to exclusive community events, among other benefits.
What are the benefits of collecting NFTs?
We recognize the concerns around the environmental impact of the Ethereum blockchain. We are currently exploring optimal solutions to balance our CO2 footprint to date. The Ethereum Foundation has also been very transparent and intentional about its goal of transitioning to a proof of stake consensus mechanism. This is relevant because the transition will decrease Ethereum’s carbon footprint by over 99%. You can read more about proof of stake and “The Merge” on their website here.

About the Host
Capucine Jenkins is the Senior Manager of Digital Art and Curator of NFTs at Saatchi Art. She has a BA in Sociocultural Anthropology, as well as a BA in Art History from Auburn University. Prior to joining Saatchi Art, Capucine has worked in numerous museums, most notably at the High Museum of Art in Atlanta. She later accepted research and sales strategy roles in prominent galleries, such as David Zwirner and Lévy Gorvy in New York. Spanning a decade, Capucine's curatorial career has allowed her to organize historical and contemporary art exhibitions for major institutions, established galleries, and emerging NFT marketplaces. She remains passionate about nurturing young artists and innovating digital art spaces. Her favorite artists include Wangechi Mutu, Charline von Heyl, Toyin Ojih Odutola, and Thornton Dial, among others.
