Our Maryland Test Facility, sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security's Science and Technology Directorate (DHS S&T), provides independent testing and evaluation of commercial biometric products for DHS and its components such as Customs and Border Protection and the Transportation Security Administration. Every day, DHS officers across the U.S. rely on technology tools, including biometrics, to inspect or screen more than 2 million air travelers.

SAIC provides AI services to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), helping the agency identify travelers and cargo that present security threats to the U.S. Under the CBP's Targeting and Analysis Systems Program Directorate (TASPD) task order, SAIC develops and maintains targeting and analysis systems, using AI/ML capabilities to more accurately identify threats to our national security.

DHS needs contractors to demonstrate their proficiency to perform complex data science work during short, hands-on challenges. SAIC was well-positioned to complete the DHS Transformation Data Science Services (TDSS) challenge because of the Innovation Factory Stack. SAIC demonstrated its expertise using real data and against a real case. As a result, SAIC was awarded the DHS TDSS-II contract and even won the recompete for the award in late 2020.

Andy Henson is the Vice President leading SAIC’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) Innovation Factory. Henson oversees the operationalization of SAIC’s AI ecosystem – including AI technical personnel, strategic partnerships and technology assets – the AI mission accelerator and the Koverse Data Platform.
Henson joined SAIC in 2016 as a strategic hire for research and development, and has been a leading force in developing and delivering SAIC’s AI, machine learning (ML), data science and advanced analytics vision.

Max Thompson is a product owner under SAIC's AI Innovation Factory. Thompson joined SAIC in 2018 as a solution architect specializing in analytics and data management solutions. As SAIC’s focus on AI evolved, so did Thompson’s role as he focused his priorities on management of the SAIC AI solution stack.
Thompson served six years in the U.S. Navy as an intelligence specialist and then supported the Defense Intelligence Agency analytic modernization efforts. Thompson has an intimate knowledge of the data management and intelligence needs that exist within many customer organizations and knows how to address them directly.

Chief Data Scientist, SAIC Artificial Intelligence Innovation Factory
Jay Meil is the chief data scientist for SAIC’s Artificial Intelligence Innovation Factory, where he directs AI strategy and solutions across multiple domains. In 2021, Meil was recognized with an SAIC research fellowship for his work in multi-modal data fusion.
Meil has 18 years of experience designing and implementing applied mathematical models to drive data-centric decision making at scale. He is passionate about developing AI solutions that facilitate the transformation of multi-INT data into actionable intelligence in support of a common operating picture across defense and national security agencies.
