The Griffin Club in Los Angeles, redesigned by CCY Architects, combines California cool design with nature-inspired, meditative elements. The team utilized Fortina by B+N Industries to achieve the look of natural wood while taking advantage of its durable, low-maintenance aluminum composition. Initially chosen for the exterior entryway, Fortina’s hyper-realistic finish and versatility impressed the designers so much that it was integrated into the interior spaces as well.

Fortina's Origin
Fortina’s origins are linked to a key innovation by Japanese company Toppan in the 1970s. Toppan, which initially began printing paper money in the early 1900s, developed a method to recreate the appearance of real wood grain on printed materials, revolutionizing how wood finishes could be applied to various surfaces. This technology would later inspire Fortina's development, building on the foundation Toppan had created to offer a versatile wood substitute.

When designing the Marion Fire Station Headquarters, OPN Architects prioritized firefighter health and well-being alongside efficient emergency response times. The 21,000-square-foot, two-story building incorporates biophilic design, including ample natural light, specialized LED lighting for healthy circadian rhythms, and outdoor terraces to connect firefighters with fresh air. To further elevate the terraces, OPN Architects’s used B+N Industries’ Fortina Rican Oak louvers, providing functional sunshades that complement the modern structure while offering a striking contrast to the shou sugi ban facade, enhancing aesthetics, durability, and connection to the outdoors.

The GrowHealthy dispensary in Orlando, designed by 2+ Architects, embraces a modern, open layout with wellness-inspired design. B+N Industries’ Fortina louvers in an oak finish line the walls, adding warmth and definition while creating distinct spaces within the store. Digital infographic displays are integrated between the louvers, enhancing the customer experience. The result is a bright, welcoming environment that reflects a spa or boutique, breaking away from traditional, dark, and more private dispensary designs.

For one of Kaiser Permanente’s many waiting rooms, the design team determined that B+N Industries’ Fortina louvers in a dark wood finish and Quick Stick millwork would be the perfect way to balance the bright, airy palette while introducing warmth and comfort to the space. Featuring highly-durable aluminum and a hyper-realistic, non-PVC surface, Fortina offers the crucial advantage of easy cleaning, making it the ideal choice for the waiting room, where strict infection control protocols are essential.
