How Abstract Art Influenced Frank Lloyd Wright’s Architecture at the Guggenheim
MKCA

Inspired by Wright’s ability to create work that was at once highly detailed and seemingly unadorned, New York-based MKCA created a palette of materials—including Emerald Green quartzite from BAS Stone, aluminum shaped like the last of a bar soap by Christopher Kurtz, and Sonder wallcovering in Emerald from Holland and Sherry—that is strong and graphic but also straightforward and clear.

Frank Lloyd Wright believed in designing structures in harmony with the environment, and this signature style continues to influence architects and designers today. For luxury fittings brand Brizo, the visionary architect’s philosophy of organic architecture and its six principles—Belonging, Simplicity, Individuality, Palette, Substance, and Integrity—inspired its latest line, the Frank Lloyd Wright Bath Collection. To celebrate the launch, Brizo partnered with Metropolis, inviting creatives from Michael K. Chen Architecture, Osmose Design, Rottet Studio, Simeone Deary Design Group, Michael Hsu Office of Architecture, and Olson Kundig to curate material palettes incorporating the new fittings and inspired by Wright’s work. The simple yet impactful compositions offer modern interpretations of Wright’s design philosophy, further underscoring the architect’s enduring relevance.

Should Architects Work With Nature or Resist It
“Frank Lloyd Wright saw beyond the here and now. He showed us a new way to build, and a new way to be. That legacy lives on. Every time we see simplicity and repose. Every time we honor the landscape and build with integrity, he is present. His story goes on. His vision continues.”
Leaving a Legacy
