Seerist Strengthens Strategic Assessments and Emerging Risk Monitoring
A SEERIST CASE STUDY
Tietoevry
Tietoevry is a leading technology company with a strong Nordic heritage and global capabilities. The company’s 24,000 experts globally specialize in cloud, data, and software, serving thousands of enterprise and public-sector customers in around 90 countries.
The company's physical security team is responsible for supporting business operations across more than 100 locations worldwide. The primary goal of the security team is to ensure that business operations remain unaffected by global, regional, and local security risks and threats, including everything from geopolitical risks to environmental hazards.
At any given time, they monitor approximately 150 static assets and facilitate safe travel for Tietoevry employees. Tietoevry’s global operational presence underscores the security team's crucial role in mitigating risks across diverse geographic locations.
The Customer
In June 2019, the two Nordic technology companies Tieto and EVRY joined forces, creating Tietoevry. To support the rapidly growing organization, Tietoevry’s security organization used Seerist’s legacy CORE platform to derive key intelligence and analysis delivered via 200+ in-region analysts that provided in-depth operational, security, political, and cyber threat insight. Through the CORE platform, the organization leveraged capabilities like Country Risk Ratings and Verified Events from Control Risks geopolitical and security risks analysis team to inform strategic operations and new market entry, as well as for internal quality assurance.
The Physical Security team recognized a gap in the CORE platform’s ability to monitor critical events in near-real-time. They also needed to be able to monitor and track unfolding events that could impact their people and assets around the globe, as well as uncover trends and patterns with events and threat actors.
The Opportunity
Seerist ran a trial for Andresen and his team, which included several onboarding and training sessions. Seerist worked closely with the trialists to set up tailored keyword alerts to enable Tietoevry’s Physical Security Operations Centre (PSOC) to monitor critical events in near real-time around Tietoevry’s sites.
During the trial process, Andresen conducted a benchmarking exercise to determine which solution in the market was best placed to meet the needs of Tietoevry and the Physical Security team.
The critical features Tietoevry were looking for included the ability to monitor unfolding events, to quickly and easily uncover threats that might not have initially been on their radar, and to analyze event trends and patterns, emotion, and sentiment charts, as well as the functionality to anticipate potential threats that could impact the organization.
The Solution
“We quickly realized that Seerist had all the things we needed in a user-friendly, very streamlined user interface – and, I’d say, in a better package than the competitors. Everything was accessible to us right off the bat,” said Robin Staw Andresen, Head of Physical Security at Tietoevry. “The tailored searches were a pretty big selling point.”
As part of the evaluation process, Tietoevry discovered that Seerist could act as a single provider meeting all the Physical Security team’s needs in one user-friendly solution. Following the trial and market analysis project, Tietoevry determined that Seerist was the right solution.
The Tietoevry team has been able to efficiently onboard and utilize the platform from the very beginning, thanks to its intuitive experience. As one team member remarked, "From an implementation perspective, there were zero issues; the platform is super straightforward in every way."
One of the significant benefits the PSOC team experienced is the ability to monitor incidents in near real-time. Previously, they relied heavily on the verified incident database within the analytical platform, but now they can shift to a more proactive approach in their threat monitoring.
The platform's robust alert functionality, including geofencing capabilities, enables Tietoevry to receive timely information from open-source data and verified events, ensuring they receive relevant intelligence to help them protect their personnel and facilities. This tailored approach results in an informed team that is not overwhelmed by too much noise due to a stream of irrelevant alerts.
The Results
“The customer service from Seerist has made the company a pleasure to work with since day one. A true example of what all providers should be like.”

Although the Tietoevry team is still new to using the full suite of capabilities within the Seerist solution, they are excited about the numerous use cases it fulfills, including identification and continuous monitoring of security risks, new site assessments, and travel security.
“Once we started using Seerist, it was discovered that we could pull all the information we needed ourselves. And so other services very quickly became redundant.”
“Thanks to Seerist and its geofencing, search functionality, and access to open-source information, we’re now a lot more confident that we’re pulling the information that is relevant to our facilities.”
“The combination of geofencing our facilities, the new search functionality, and the longstanding analysis capabilities, makes Seerist an excellent solution for us.”
To initially address these issues, Robin Staw Andresen, Head of Physical Security, collected information and updates on geopolitical and security risk trends from other sources and third-party vendors as an addition to the CORE platform. However, once Andresen heard about the capabilities that the complete Seerist platform offers, he decided to investigate the offering to determine whether it could resolve the gap in his technology portfolio.

While search tools are paramount, the ability to receive analysis is critical to helping teams create informed strategies. The combination of tactical and strategic capabilities in one solution has set Seerist apart. "Seerist's analysis is a massive time saver. We would need to triple the amount of people to be able to do even half of what we can do with the platform," Andresen adds.
Andresen stated, "Seerist's tailored searches are a lifesaver. When any topic comes up, we can create specific searches for it and the platform will pull both open source and verified events, enabling us to make accurate assessments on what to do."
