Letter From Our Editor
he holiday season can often exacerbate the
stress we feel as parents with the pressure to find the perfect gifts, create the perfect experiences, and whip up the perfect meals. As moms, it’s often on us to make the magic. But where is the joy in it for us? For our 2022
holiday issue, we bring you tips and
tricks to help you pare it down —
and enjoy it more.
That’s just what our cover star,
The Kitchen co-host and cookbook
author Katie Lee Biegel, will be
doing this year, as she hosts family for Thanksgiving. “I remember years ago, the first time I ever hosted Thanksgiving, I tried to make every side dish under the sun,” Biegel recalls. “And I learned that that’s totally unnecessary.” You’ll find pro tips like this — and more on Biegel’s evolution toward cooking that’s homey and delicious without being complicated — in SheKnows Deputy Editor Erika Janes’s profile.
SK Parenting Editor Rita Templeton is also here to help moms cut through the clutter with her
story on how parents can turn down the
stress and focus on what really
brings them joy this time of year.
Plus, chef Giada De Laurentiis
stopped by the office to dish on
all things holiday, and event
planner and lifestyle influencer
Yaz Quiles shares how to create a
showstopping tablescape on a
budget. Consider that one less thing to shop on your list!

Katie Lee Biegel
rediscovers her love of the holidays
Katie Lee Biegel, Jessica Biel, Giada De Laurentiis,
Kirby Howell-Baptiste, Elizabeth Hurley,
and Keke Palmer share their picks.
“I’d probably bring you stuff that I've made. I make sloe gin. I make black currant vodka, and I make marmalade and lots of different types of jelly — all from fruits from my garden. So I'd give you a little basket of that.” — Elizabeth Hurley
“I got this gift last Christmas that I'm obsessed with — the Ember coffee mug. I love it! It's become the gift that I give to every friend who gets pregnant because I think every mom deserves a hot cup of coffee. But I think it's a really fun hostess gift, as well.”
- Katie Lee Biegel
“My go-to hostess gift is one of two: either my Everything But The Formaggio kit or my La Dolce Vita kit.”
- Giada De Laurentiis
“It’s a meditation candle called “Bell”. It's this beautiful brass, single candle holder, and it has one tiny beautiful little candle. And inside the candle, you insert three tiny brass little arrows. As the candle burns, when it gets to the first one and the brass piece falls out and it hits the bottom of the bowl, it goes ding. So you know, five minutes. And then you hit another one ding 10 minutes and you had another one ding 15 minutes. It gives you this beautiful, organic kind of meditation timer. It’s a really elegant gift.” — Jessica Biel
“My specialty is a banoffee pie, and if you’ve never had one, it’s the most exquisite thing. It’s very, very British. We use digestive biscuits in the base, but it’s interchangeable with graham crackers. So you crush up a graham cracker base, and then you make caramel using condensed milk or toffee, and then you lay bananas and whipped cream and shaved chocolate on top. It doesn’t take that long to make, but the effect is amazing. It’s the thing that I’m known for, so if there’s ever a dinner party I’m like, ‘I got it! I’m making a banoffee pie.’” — Kirby Howell-Baptiste
“I think any type of pots & pans, appetizer servers. You can never have too many of those! A cool unique, package, of some type of vintage china, I think that’s great! The worst is something that can’t last.” — Keke Palmer
